hi everyone

snuck out for a quick round this morning. moonah course at national. lazy 30 pts with a few wipes. putting way off today, including landing a off kilter 7 iron on the par 3 160m around 13m from the pin. proceeded to putt myself out of point contention to obtain a wipe. lol. constant misty drizzle for the front 9, one hole we were peppered with large raindrops on the back 9. lost composure on first portion of back 9 as saw group right up our arses. but we werent slow at all (round completed in just under 4 hrs).

leader at the moment has 45 pts. lol

Just played. Frustrating 35 points with 3 wipes. All three wipes were due to extremely poor tee shots. Front nine, started off relatively poorly but then had a nice little run up the last 5 holes. Back nine was a bit of a shambles and I choked after my 21 on the front. Been happening a lot lately. Really need to stay focused on the present shot.

A good tactic, especially after a good front nine (one I usually do), is to take a 3 wood or a low hybrid off the 10th to consolidate your game.

Any tight fairways, likeways try playing the course a bit smarter on the back 9, even if you are shooting the lights out laying up into good areas on par 5's etc.

It also depends how far you can hit a 3 wood, or if you own a 15* or 17* hybrid (which I highly recommend), especially if you are pushing drives etc.

what if the 10th is a par 3?

what if the 10th is a par 3?

Yeah well :p

I mean your next long hole, even a par 5, I'll make sure I hit a fairway to keep the momentum up.

I'm not sure if any of you have played tourny golf or pennant, but they were always the hardest opponents to play against.

The guys that were smart, composed, they might only get the driver out 2-3 times a round, they were always tough to beat. The bombers etc were easy to get over, as I'm one of those types myself, fairways in reg are just about the most important stat a weekend golfer should be concentrating on.

What are wipes and points?

in golf there are varying methods of scoring and henceforth determining the days winner.
stroke is what everyone knows, count number of strokes until ball goes in hole. *s****** s*******

stableford. your handicap is used to determine how many "extra shots" you get on each hole.

For the purpose of this exercise we will ignore sloping systems applied by GA to each course and just assume the handicap you have (aka Golf Australia handicap) is what you play off when you're in the days comp.

ok. deep breath.

say your h/c is 18, you get an extra stroke for every hole in the round (18 holes, 18 h/c)

So, for every
Par 3, you get 4 shots to achieve "par". in effect it becomes a par 4
Par 4, you get 5 shots to achieve "par". in effect it becomes a par 5
Par 5, you get 6 shots to achieve "par". in effect it becomes a par 6

Scoring or points. Works like this. if you achieve a par (after applying handicap to the scorecard and thus each hole) you get 2 points.... so

After handicap applied
achieve "par" = 2 points
achieve "one over" = 1 point
achieve "two over" = 0

furthermore
achieve "birdie" = 3 points
achieve "eagle" = 4 pts

Let's take a par 5 as example. All players have h/c of 18, so remember if you have 6 strokes you achieve "par":

Peter North had 4 = eagle = 4 points (come at me)
Tiger Woods had 5 = a birdie = 3 points
Fuzzy Zoeller had 6 = par = 2 points
Boo Weekly had a 7 = one over = 1 point
Greg Norman had 8 = two over = 0 points

If you score for example 2 points on every hole, you get 36 pts at the end of the round (2 pts x 18 holes = 36). so 36 pts means you "play to your handicap", which should be the aim of stableford golf.

Now wipes. A wipe is what you do when you hang a shit (i hope). lol, i joke. in golf if is when you don't score any points on that hole. So, h/c of 18 = 1 extra shot per hole. on a par 3 you can have 5 shots as 5 strokes gives you 1 point. if you miss the 5th stroke you pick up the ball and move onto the next hole.

Hate the group behind scenario

Used to annoy me alot and we'd try snd speed up.
now we deliberately play a SLOW hole.

well it was hard to judge at first cause group in front of me were a 2some. so they sped off. but we looked at our watch (ie iPhone) and saw we were making good time.

look, without having the agency of a carrier pigeon to take a note asking if we were holding them up, they just had to wait a few times. they didnt raise their arms and make rude gestures so it was ok. but yeah, i felt like my group should play faster if possible.

deliberately playing slow is bad mmkay? we have marshalls on busy days who will tell you sternly to fasten play. playing slowly on purpose just frustrates the group behind, and groups behind them.

Hitting up on a group infront is poor form of the highest order when they are NOT making bad "round" time

For me personally I try/aim to stay as balanced throughout the game in terms of tempo as possible. In my experience I've found that when I declub too much and try to play it too safe I'll often have worse outcomes.

10th tee is a difficult one. Really need to attack the drive and get into a good position. Dog legs right where the fairway and around the green are severely downhill to the right. So need to have a good approach with little room for error.

I'm going to have a lesson on driving on Thur. I think greater consistency/accuracy off the tee will reduce my score by a few strokes. I'll likely gain some distance (which isn't my primary concern) but importantly won't waste shots punching out from between trees. My course like most punishes errant tee shots. Hopefully my lesson will give me some things to work on RE: technique to give me a confident drive.

WTF

Must have been a case of mistaken identity. Allenby hasn't done anything on tour for a long time.

enjoyable round at Rosanna GC yesterday. aprons around many greens were shit as they had been returfed. u know, long sandy lines clearly dividing patches of grass = GUR. anyway, solid 34 pts. drove best of my life including a monster 290m. left with 135 out, left 8 iron short on the shitting GUR apron. scuffed chip to back of green. 3 on. 3 putts = 6. wtf???

wildlife included rabbits, ducks, various birds.

Welcome to my world.

Although I hit it about 30-40m further, it's depressing walking off holes with a bogey or double, when you are hitting a 30-50m lob wedge second into some of them.
