One of the best lessons I learnt early days is always leave the course in better condition than when you started. Fix a few of other peoples pitch marks, fill in a few of other peoples divots.

Theres been numerous times I've managed to empty an entire sand bucket on a single fairway fixing other peoples shit.

That is probably the biggest thing I am jealous of you private club members. I imagine members would get booted out for leaving bunkers the way they get treated by the public. It's actually disgraceful...my brain goes into meltdown when I put a ball in one in fear of what i am likely to see, when walking to the bunker. Was playing Waverley public for quite a while and they are horrendous by the end of a day. I don't mind losing a shot when I am in one but if it blows out because of lazy stupid people it really hurts. Waterford Valley better but not always. An issue I am having there....is that they are keeping the greens pretty wet and the sprinklers soak the bunkers, they can be dry on top but wet underneath. I am finding that hard...not sure if its my technique or everyone struggles.
My club is as exclusive as they come and the bunker raking is an absolute lottery. Won’t even mention the evil morons who don’t leave rakes in the middle of bunkers

pet hate of mine. they leave it hanging over the edge, or sticking out of the bunker. How hard is it to place it into the bunker in the right possie?

I wonder what the split is between those who don’t know how/why to do it and those who don’t give a flying fwark about others

Out of curiosity, does your club have a specific way the rake should be laid in a bunker?

I think its 3 fold

1. dont know how to place bubker
2. dont know WHY its placed in that manner
3. dont give a sheeet about others. lazy

Yes.

At one of my clubs rakes are outside.
At the other club they go inside

There’s one easy way to learn why. Cop a ball next to a rake placed next to a back edge.

Yep - very specific- as close to the middle as possible rake pointing towards pin with rake head on the pin side.
If I assume bunker is:

Left hand side of green
Runs full length of Green
Pin is in the middle of Green

Rake sits sideways in the bunker, pointing towards the flag/hole

Yep - doesn’t need to be perfect, just placed so someone doesn’t cop an unfair lie.

Then again, tomorrow is second round of club champs. Might be time to be mean

I find that placement bizarre tbh

I hit a low shank runner into the pot and it has a chance of stopping mid pot, pin high

Thing that kills me most is unraked footprints from one side of the bunker to the other with a detour because the rake is in the way. FFS

Sorry I have no sympathy and it occurs everywhere. It is always a IDGAF as the reason. We recently had a dob in a non raker and the club would speak to them. Trouble is I often think it happens when the course is quiet and people playing alone or in pairs.

See the results of it all the time but the non rakers hide in the shadows

Bunkers can be left in horrible condition at my course. And rake placement too. People leave them on a slope and they stop your ball. Try a short sided bunker shot off a downhill lie. Wipe. Also play at Box Hill. They have rakes on a wire stand. Not bad. You can grab the rake, walk into bunker, play then rake. Works.
Phillip Island has rakes vertical in pvc pipes. Also would work if people took hold of rake. They are shizen down there. Lots of once a year players.

For mine, the butt of the rake (ie not the head) points back into the direction of the fairway. doesnt matter where the pin is

It’s pretty similar to PN’s example below - and that’s usually the way most ppl leave it. What is your alternative?
Maybe it was a wording issue

Going by your worded description, the 2nd pot on the left the rake sits at 90degrees - straight across the pot

Unless I've misinterpreted

9 holes tonight. 4 over, x1 birdie, x3 putts hit the hole. Drove really well. A couple of 250m pops with the wind.
Accidental got a TP5 ball out of my bag on the 1st. Needless to say it spun high off the tee and went nowhere. Not a fan of this ball.
On the bunkers being raked, ours are OK I suppose. Bit I've played many times on public courses when my ball ends up in a footprint, i call out to my partners, let them know im picking the ball up, raking the spot and throwing my ball back down.

77 today in horrible windy conditions. 40 on the tougher front nine and 37 on the back with a birdie on 17 saved my round.

Much easier to manage the conditions when the fairways are wider and straighter.

Presumably those rounds are social golf
