Using the Premiership players of 92, 94 and 06 lets see if some of us can make up our own sides using these players from these teams.

Name the team, bench players and coach. It may be Woosha, Malthouse or will your FF be Lynch or Sumich? Would RoJo or Fletcher get a gig? Such great players to ponder over.

Premiership players are only invited into your side and they must resemble thier main positions, ie: Judd can't be named at fullback, etc etc.

I will add my own side soon, right now after a 12 hour day, I am not really up to it, but lets see who can come up with the best side. :)

Thats a tough one. First things first, someone should name all three premiership sides and who played so that we know who to choose from. Not that I think I will need that. So here I go...off the top of my head.

Wirrpanda Glass McIntosh
McKenna Jakovich Worsfold
Braun Kemp Matera
Cousins Hunter Embley
Evans Sumich Lewis

Cox Kerr Judd

Banfield Mainwaring Stenglein B.Jones

So that was straight off the top of my head. Now you all may attack me on who i left out and who shouldnt be in etc etc

Players you've got to choose from, 47 all up, in alphabetical order:

Armstrong
Ball
Banfield
Bond
Braun
Brennan
Butler
Chick
Cousins
Cox
Embley
Evans
Fletcher
Glass
Hansen
Harding
Hart
Heady
Hunter
Hynes
Jackovich
Judd
B.Jones
R.Jones
Kemp
Kerr
Lamb
Langdon
Lewis
Lynch
Mainwaring
Matera
McIntosh
McKenna
Pyke
Seaby
Selwood
Stenglein
Sumich
Turley
Turnbull
Waterman
Waters
White
Wilson
Wirrpanda
Worsfold

Pretty hard to pick some of the younger players that played in the 2006 GF, who will only get better, but some very good names in there.

Was actually thinking about this a week ago. Here's my lineup:

Wirrapanda Glass Mckenna
Worsfold Jackovich Waters
Mainwaring Kemp Matera
Cousins White Embley
Lewis Sumich Heady

Ruck:
Cox Judd Kerr

Interchange:
Hunter, Evans, Banfield, B. Jones

Coach:
Mick Malthouse (since we could not have Woosha as player and coach)

No holes barred defence of hard nuts in woosha and waters with the pure running class of wirra and bluey mckenna.

Ruck line is all current crop and centre line is of the vintage 90's era.

White for my money was our best ever CHF. Our current forward line deficiences are taken care of by the likes of Heady and Lewis who add quality crumbing and marking abilities (way better than the likes of Sampi, Le Cras and Morton who are still developing).

Apologies to Mcintosh who I just couldn't fit in.

Banfield Glass McIntosh
McKenna Jackovich Worsfold
Embley Kemp Matera
Cousins Hunter Stenglien
Lewis Sumich Heady

RUCKS;
Cox Judd Kerr

BENCH;
Evans Mainwaring Pyke & Ball ( given Ball the nod for an extra tall )

COACH;
Mick Malthouse

This is harder than it looks but had a crack and would take this team anyday.:thumbsu:

There is 2 lines that pick them selves HB & RUCK imo anyway.

B: Wirrpanda McIntosh Glass
HB: McKenna Jakovich Worsfold
C: Mainwaring Kemp Peter Matera
HF: Embley Hunter Lewis
F: Wilson Sumich Heady
R: Cox Judd Cousins

Int: Kerr Turnbull Pyke Waterman
Emer: Brennan Braun Stenglein

That was tough. One thing that emerged was that we've had three gun fullbacks and a strong defence in general, and an awesome midfield but not much of a forward line. CHF in particular was tough to pick.

Agree, except I'd have Turley on the wing instead of Braun, then it is a toss up as to whether Bannas or Brauny get omitted. Again though, it makes this a hard thread when the game has changed so much over the last decade. Someone like Woosh who was very built and rough and tough might be not a lot of good today, but who knows?

B: Hart, Glass, McIntosh
HB: McKenna, Jakovich, Woosha (captain/coach)
C: Mainwaring, Cousins, Matera
HF: Heady, Lynch, Embley
F: Lewis, Sumich, Evans
Ruck: Cox, Judd, Kemp
Interchange: Waterman, Kerr, Wirrpanda, Pyke

unlucky: White, Brennan, Stenglein, Banfield, turnbull

B - Banfield Glass Wirrpanda
HB - McKenna Jakovich Worsfold
C - Matera Kemp Embley
HF - Heady Hunter Cousins
F - Lynch Sumich Lewis
R - Cox Judd Kerr
I - Turley Mainwaring McIntosh Stenglein
E - Chick Hart Pyke White

B: D. Hart...............D. Glass...........A. McIntosh
HB: G. McKenna.......G. Jakovich..........J. Worsfold
C: C. Mainwaring......D. Kemp..........Peter Matera
HF: A. Embley...........A. Hunter............B. Heady
F: B. Cousins.........P. Sumich.............C. Lewis
R: D. Cox...............C. Judd.............T. Stenglein

Int: D. Kerr........P. Wilson.......D. Wirrpanda.......P. Harding

Several players I bled leaving out behind Harding, but the side has to have a 2nd ruckman. Close between Harding and Ball, who also would have provided a forward option.

I'm assuming a good side we'd come up against us would test our height down back, so McIntosh on the ground ahead of Wirra. Hart got the nod as the running BP just. IF, it was a smaller opponent, Wirra onto the ground, and McIntosh replaced in the 22.

Half back line one of the all time strongest HB lines in AFL footy I reckon, can not be broken up.

Kerr playing an impact role off the bench. Kemp has to start in the middle, and we need one player who can play a shut down role in the guts, hence Stenglein starting there. Cousins can start forward.

Hunter v White was a tough call, as was McIntosh v Brennan v Glass. Interesting, I never even considered Hansen for the CHF spot, had it narrowed in my mind to Hunter or White with the luxury of Jakovich to hold down CHB.

Peter Wilson was realistically Wilson v Langdon v Chick v Waters in my mind. Believe most good premierships sides have that one x factor player and gave the nod to Wilson based on the fact that at this stage he did it over a longer period of time. Waters will likely grab a spot over time in this team.

This is the team I came up with after some thought I decided not to pick someone who was a specialist tagger or run with player as with the quality of players we could constantly rotate through the midfield I would back them into to beat their opponent. If needed Chick or Waterman could do a job and that's why they both get a gig due to their versatilty throughout their careers they played forward, back and through the midfield.

B: McIntosh Glass Wirrapanda
HB: McKenna Jakovich Worsfold
C: Matera Kemp Mainwaring
HF: Embley Lynch Heady
F: Waterman Sumich Lewis
R: Cox Judd Cousins
I: Kerr Chick Evans Ball

Even more surprising is the amount of people who left out cousins??

He has been named in every side? He is pretty much the first person named when you think about this team.

Just on my team. I knew their was someone I would forget. Brett Heady. Has to be in the side, not sure who im dropping to bring him in though.

How can you leave out McIntosh? He is our greatest ever FB. You need three talls down back and IMO without question they are Glass, Jakovich and Milli. Plus if the opposition go small you can leave Jako and Glass down back and swing McIntosh forward. He was always pretty good as a leading forward.

FB: Wirrpanda Glass McIntosh

I really wanted to be able to name Phil Matera in this team :( The most contentious decision I've made is probably Lynchy at CHF, but we don't exactly have an abundance of talent for that position. If we win another premiership this year I'm sure there will be a few more current-day players in my team.

I seriously think that no team will be able to score against that backline though

Probably because I was following the initial directive of picking players that in positions that they played / play at. McIntosh and Glass are both classic full backs. I couldn't pick both in the full back possie - I could have perhaps left Waters out and brought in Millie but I was trying to go for a balanced outfit.

Not easy as people have pointed out already...

Ok, a bit of a spin on it, the best premiership side actually based on GF performances!

For example, Chris Mainwaring, top player, but injured in 92 and nothing out of the bag in 94, he misses out but Daniel Chick, perhaps borderline for a team based on talent gets a run for his heroics in 2006. With that in mind -

Waterman (94) Brennan (94) Glass (06)
Worfold (92) Jakovich (92) McKenna (94)
Matera (92) Kemp (94) Embley (06)
Wilson (92) Heady (94) Cousins (06)
Evans (92,94) Sumich (92) Chick (Smother etc)

Cox (06) Kerr (06) Pyke (94)

Waters (06) Harding (92) Judd (06) Fletcher (06)

That's a break down of

13 old boys over 2 grand finals and 9 of the current crop.

Coached by Micky, cos he's got 2. Woosha can be captain for giving Garry Hocking that corky in 94.

Interested to hear on the radio last week that Jakovich thought McIntosh was better than Brennan and even better than SOS who was fullback of the century.

SOS is very overrated IMO. Milli was better than Brennan.
agreed that SOS is overrated - still had the wood on most FBs though including McIntosh.

my team would be as follows:

Backs - David Wirrpana - Darren Glass - Ashley McIntosh
Half Backs - Guy McKenna - Glen Jakovich - John Worsfold
Centres - Andrew Embley - Dean Kemp - Peter Matera
Half Forwards - Brett Heady - Mitchell White - Tyson Stenglein
Forwards - Chris Lewis - Peter Sumich - Ben Cousins
Rucks - Dean Cox - Daniel Kerr - Chris Judd
Bench - Jason Ball - Adam Hunter - Chris Mainwaring - Beau Waters

Awesome defence and midfield, with Cousins, Stenglein and Mainwaring also able to float through the midfield and wing roles. Second back up ruckman in Ball who can float forward too, three awesome tall defenders with Hunter on the bench who can swing forward and back, whilst if the oposition play small McIntosh can go forward too.

Last spot on the bench was between Chick and Beau Waters i thought - a hard nut who can play at either end of the ground and even in the midfield.

Pretty good bloody team if you ask me given theres only 47 players to choose from.
