DOCKERS!!
If you play in a footy team, feel free to tell us how you finished up, or how your going this season.

The Dunsborough (South west of WA) U'14s are about to enter a Grand Final for the 6th year straight, and they've won 4 of them. I'm happy to say I've participated in three of those :). For six years, these boys have pretty much dominated football...three of the last 4 seasons have resulted in undefeated seasons, winning all games by over 100 points. Biggest win ever : 231 - 0 vs Countries.

Last year, the Dunsborough U'16s lost the Grandie to arch rivals: Demons, and this year, we mearly missed out on the finals by one game. Demons made it, but have been knocked out in the first round.

well i dont play footy but i have very close connections with the geelong falcons and dey lost today in the elimination final against the bendigo pioneers

Oh my god...now that's a f****n victory. That oughta boost your percentage just a tad?

I don't play either, but I've got a mate who plays for Central's U17s (Nick Bracken, for anyone interested), and know someone who's on the list for North's U17s but has never got a game.

None of the Brothers AFC (play in Capricornia league) teams from under 14's up to seniors made the finals. The Under 14's were a little unlucky to miss out by a game after a couple of heartbreaking defeats in the last 2 games of the season.

The Under 17's got only 1 win for the season in another tough year where getting a side on the paddock was half the battle.

Reserve Grade won only twice for the year plus picked up the points on a round 1 technicality against BITS (unregistered player which is becoming common in Round 1) and avoided the wooden spoon.

As you all know the seniors missed the finals (by 25%) but snapped BITS' 65 game winning streak in the final round.

On a personal level I played all 15 games in Reserves, kicked 4 goals (leading goalkicker kicked around 7 to my knowledge) and got severly frustrated throughout the year. I was also the skipper for one of the games (we lost). I managed to appear in 1 senior game (we won easilly) but failed to get any meaningful posessions.

The only team I actually ever officially played for was Cheltenham (I played crappily in 1991). I believe they finished about 7th in Div 1 Southern FL (Vic) this year. Started ok but dropped off.

The team I played "mini-league" for in my formative years, Marnoo, hasn't fielded a team since 2000. I even found it hard to break into the mini-league team! Probably a disappointment to my (late) father who was a premiership captain for Marnoo (seniors) in the 1950s.

The local team I support, Fitzroy Reds, enjoyed the rest this weekend just gone and face Peninsula in the GF this coming Saturday. Peninsula were unbeaten until we knocked them off in the 2S.

They will be hard to beat, especially so considering a couple of our prime movers are out injured after the 2S. hopefully West Brunswick beat them up a bit in the PF.

Play with Maribyrnong Park u18s, finished last with only a single victory for the year. We struggled to field a team most weeks and generally received a flogging week in-out; it was probably a testament to the player's character that we even bothered to continually show up and have a dip- as it was the effort paid off and was worth it. Forunately the seniors and reserves had a reasonably good year and look as if things are on the up.

School footy team won the div2 ACC comp, went undefeated throughout the season and played some great footy. It was definitley a breath of fresh air to win once in a while! As it was I would probably trade in success at this level a hundred times over for just one good, competitive season at Marby. The quality of the comp wasn't that bad actually with most schools fielding teams with a few TAC cup players, provided a bigger challenge at FB than playing CHB in the B grade of the EDFL anyway:p .

Very happy that the seasons areover for the year but can't wait to get back into it.

Had a year off this year but am gonna find myself a low division side in the WAAFL (amateurs) next year to play in, should be fun:) Ive missed it so much this year!. Never been overly talented, just love playing it and being part of a club.

Well,

2003 was my first year of seniors footy (I played all season in the ressies, but you get what I mean), after about 6-7 years break since playing a few seasons of under 13s and under 15s for Stratford (down Central/East Gippsland way).

I had ben playing hockey for the interim and felt like a change, a few guys I went to school with were playing footy at St Marys and it seemed like a good idea.

It confirmed my self-image as an enthusiastic, but ultimately mostly useless footballer.

But anyway - about the club - St Marys finished third in the reserves and fourth in the seniors, lost the first semi final in both grades. Pretty ****ed, that.

Don't know if I'll play next season, am not sure if I'll even be in Melbourne still (or even in Australia).

If I'm here, I'll definitely be back playing - the urge to play is very hard to kill (even when you're a crap footballer).

Great club, good bunch of blokes.

Played my first season of competitive (and I use the term loosely) football for 16 years - played for Brunswick Power reserves in D4 of the VAFA. Our best result for the year was a draw. I think the seniors won one game. Still had a blast playing again and even picked up a few trophies in the Best and Fairest (Most Improved at the age of 30!).

Played in a senior premiership last year, then retired from the game, thought it was a good way to finish up, but would love to go back and have another run next year, will wait and see. my brother lines up in his U/18 GF this weekend, hope they go well, this side has stuck together from u/15's when they struggled for numbers and constantly got thumped to now playing off in the big one.

Yeah I know of it but only cause I collect footy history, never been there or played out that way or anything. So, no, not really, don't know it :D

Lots of folk on this board love hearing about clubs wherever they may be and quite a few tend to know a bit about many of them. Probably 80% of Vic posters on this board could tell you what ROC stands for, and a few from outside the state could, too. Its a great community.

Well a great club, retired at a fairly young age, the club had about 8 senior premiership players move on, the only game we lost was the second semi, while the seconds were undefeated and won the flag and had about 10 players move on. The club's 1sts and 2nds both were defeated in the prelim last weekend a good effort considering no recruiting, the player loss and the u/17's were made u/18's this year so no automatic retention of juniors. The u/18's have done well and hopefully win the flag.
Last years senior side, with all of its success, we were branded as a club that paid out $$$$$, this wasnt the case, the club isnt into paying out big money, we had an ex ROC junior and ex AFL player Paul Corrigan return to the club, plus his younger brother Mark, also ex junior and a mate of theirs Michael Barker. These guys all played at Old Haileybury this year, with Mark being names the VAFA best player against the VCFL team.
Just some info to keep you updated.

I think the VAFA D4 grade is the most represented football eague on bigfooty. I started back up this year after having not played since I was 12, at Box Hill North in said grade. I played reserves all year, and we won 2 games, both games against Rusty Brookes and his Brunswick Power. Our seniors, after winning 2 games last year, went 5-11 this year, including an 87 point victory over (you guessed it) Brunswick Power. The aim is to recruit some talls over summer, and press for finals in 2004.

Me personally, it took me a while to get into it, ie be up to even D4 reserve standard, especially as I only joined 1 week before our first practice match. I definitely improved as the season wore on, and after being moved around a fair bit to start off with, played about the last 5 or 6 conseciutive games on the wing, which seems to be where they are grooming to become, a permanent winger. Got in the best each of the last 3 weeks of the season, so things are looking up for me next year. Hoping, with natural development (still only 20 so a bit of room for improvement) to be a seniors players by midway through 2004.

Rusty, are the Power going to get kicked out of the VAFA?

Cheers ROC, appreciate the news.

Squeak, imagine how rough it makes me feel to see you flitting around the ground like tinkerbell at the BF match, and then jumping on here and saying you only just got back into footy and was underdone! These old bones creak in anguish at the sight of you now! :D

And Rusty, what Squeak asked!

Squeak, that sounds all too familiar...

I can't see myself making seniors any time soon, though - definitely not at St Marys anyway.

As I've said a few times - BHN from all accounts have improved a lot in the last few seasons.

It's not looking good in terms of us staying. There is talk that we might be going to the Western Suburbs league.

It would be a shame as both seniors and reserves were starting to become competitive as the season wore on (we ran with North Brunswick for three quarters, ahead of UHS-VU at quarter time and drew with Eltham) and there are several players who came to the club late who were unable to play due to missing the registration date but were excellent in practice games and the like.

The worse case scenario is that the club folds which is a possibility as well. The club is still training however for the Aboriginal Sports Carnival in a few weeks time.

Personally, I've loved playing in the ammos and hope that the club stays in the VAFA. There have been some discipline problems but I think if the club wants to grow it has got to deal with those issues.

If the club does go over to the Western League, I'll still play there. If the club folds, I'll try to get a game at one of the local ammo clubs, which might be tough given the standard of some them (UHS-VU, North Brunswick).

Mixed emotions at my former club Glen Orden in the WRFL after the weekend. They lost the Division 2 Seniors to North Sunshine but, won the Division 2 Reserves over North Footscray.

Perhaps the biggest upset to me would be for my good friends who play for Hoppers Crossing in Division 1 of the WRFL. Whilst the Reserves are in the Grand Final this coming Saturday, the Seniors got quite well beaten by Spotswood.

What was all that about a guy not showing up to the tribunal or something for about six weeks?

You had a few good players though - the old Aboriginal bloke who played full forward in the reserves against us the second time was a funny bloke.

Basically the club was put on a good behaviour bond which I think was contravened.

That old bloke is a legend. Scared the pants off me when he was talking about prison footy - now that sounds hard!

I have a tale of woe.
Have played the entire season for Loxton A grade as a forward pocket cum rover. Booted 17 goals for the season - many of which were of the canny snap variety.
Problem is, I tore my hamstring in the final minor round game.
The Tiges have made it through to this Saturday's grand final. I shan't be playing.
Damn it hurts.

Oh no! Sorry to hear that, DW. What a bummer.

Think of it this way ... if they win, they'll have done it for you.

And when they win, beware, cause they'll drag you out onto the ground and into a group hug ... and that's where small hammies can become big hammies!
