Your Thoughts

Okay, it's 5 in the morning and I need to take a break from the Seinfeld marathon......

So, I just wanted to know what you guys would do if u were coach of Melbourne. Which players would u move, who would u trade and who would you try and recruit. Just a bit of fun.

Plus, I believe AFL Coach 2001 comes out in November, so u can do it for real then!! I cannot wait.

Anyway, my thoughts are....

1. Keep FARMER!

2. Trade Leoncelli, Rigoni or A. McDonald for a tall defender or forward, maybe Hall, Holland or even Robran or Bolton from Essendon. We have enough midfielders, especially with Powell returnin and the assumption of Johnno havin a full season.

3. Also move Green into the middle. Have Ox, Farmer (if he stays) Robbo and Bruce as hey forwards, also Neitz if he stays forward. Nicho and Borady down back.

We need to maybe recruit a player like McKernan as well, altho he may be useless.........

Anyway, your thoughts are most welcome!

Move Neitz up back ALL THE TIME!

Get some stronger midfielder I.e mentally.

Improve the mental side of things. We are a WEAK side.

Get some high profile players which menas we have to trade a few high profile players of our own. Eg Leoncelli, Robertson, McDonald etc..

Well i think mentally we are ****.... physically and skill wise we are great!
Get a phsycologist down there and work with the players, make sure they are ok mentally, that they are not home sick or down on themselves and that they are happy where they are and that will be the key to our success.
Our current team (minus bloody farmer) is the same team that got us into a grand-final so you can't tell me they are crap, there is no point doing major changes to a great team who can go far when they all gel so well together.
Get them some mental help and all will be good!

They are not champion players.
Hird is a champion, Carey is a champion, Silvagni is a champion, Kouta is a champion, Buckley is a champion.

There is not ONE champion at MFC.

And why are all these players champions? coz they club stuck by them and helped them develope.
A team of good players is a better team than one with one or two champions (look at collingwood!)

So they won't win a brownlow or be called "a legend" by Brucey McAveny who so what? They work together as a team to produce good results (every season year!)
If you haven't already noticed AFL is a team sport, it works on cooperation and team work... changing around a club means waiting years for players to fit in and gel with the vatrans of the team.
I'm sorry but if they took us into the grand final once, there is no reason why they can't do it again.
Its better to invest in young players and develope them!

We can not accept being up one year down the next. We must strive to be good all the time and several players on the list fail to be able to do that.

Why do they fail? because every second year the footy fairy forgets to dust them with magic dust?? I mean come on we all know their ability to play good football doesn't disappear, and you agreed with me when i said it was all in their head.
Them not being consistant has nothing to do with their talent or lack of it, it has everything to do with their mentality and thats where the club should step in and make changes... they should get a new phsycologist or motivational talker or councilor not new players!

Doubt that would work. Our players are very poor mentally they don't stand up so changes are needed.

We are poor mentally AND physically.

To be a successful footy side you have to be hard. North in 99 had Carey, Archer, King, Stevens, Martyn etc and they won the flag. Essendon in 2000 had Barnard, Wallis, the Johnsons etc and they won the flag. Brisbane this year have got Voss, the Scotts, Pike, Leppitsch, Hart etc and they won the flag. Whoa - there is a pattern emerging!

How many serious hard at it players like the ones I listed do we have at Melbourne apart from Schwarz and maybe Walsh? We need to recruit a a big, strong, tough forward/backman in the mould of a Barry Hall and a strong midfielder, otherwise, we'll make it to grand finals and get intimidated like we did in 2000.

...and the loss of Farmer will hurt. It will hurt a lot.

Hopefully we can snare Everitt. But I doubt it very much.
