Just curious on your thought process.

With the possible exceptions of Hartman (NFI yet) and the new blokes (including the mysterious Bale), I would say they are all almost certain to play 100 games.
But they won't all do so at Geelong.
And the list of blokes who do and don't make the ton here won't align with the list of BF favourites and non-favourites.

I'm thinking 6 years to get to 11 games,he's entitled to have doubts,no?

The back problem seems fine now, does it not? Any reason to suggest he's still suffering from it? That's why it's taken him 6 years to play 11 games.

Averaging 37 hitouts a game tips the scale ever so slightly towards 'he'll make it' if you ask me.

ha ha.
I dont mind the look of him.

It's just off season fun mate.
i.e. I suggested GHS wont make 100 and I love him. And Smedts has so much talent I'll me amazed if he doesn't make it to the ton.

Catgirl has about a dozen making it. It would be truly amazing if 6 make it to a ton.

Would honestly love to hear your reasoning here.
Gut feel that he isn't going to get enough opportunity, and will be lost in the system.

It is a fair bit of guess work here as we have not seen much of a few on the list.

Surprised so many reckon NO on Bews - he is 50/50 or better I reckon.

Quite a few down on Hamling but he needs another VFL season before he has developed - and on Wells' record he must be a fair chance.

Catgirl's GHS comment - never been so sure - wow big call and I truly hope you are right.

For me Simpson and Thurlow are basically no brainers and Murdoch not that far behind them.

As for the rest - I need to see more of them to know. And that means senior time - before any serious assessment can be made.

Will be an interesting thread to look back on in 2-3 years I reckon !

Maybe if our best 22 was full of 23 year olds. With the situation we are in, overturning a team of champion veterans and grooming 21 year old replacements alongside them, we will be getting games into a lot of new names and pronto. We have to find replacements for Chapman, Corey, West, J Hunt and Podsiadly. Not to mention those who will most likely be leaving within the next few years: Bartel, Kelly, Lonergan, Mackie, Johnson, Stokes, Rivers, McIntosh and Enright.

But for what it's worth, I wasn't looking at "making it" as playing 100 games. I believe to have made it at AFL level, you need to service your team to the best of your abilities for at least a couple of years or at least when the club needs you. There are a lot of average/crap players who have played 100+ games, hell even 200 games.

Podsiadly never reached 100 games for us, does that mean he hasn't made it yet? Shannon Byrnes made it with us long before he reached the ton. Lonergan only reached 100 games this season, and I would have said he'd made it in the AFL at least 2 years ago.

I think it's reasonable enough to suggest that at least a dozen or so players will serve us well as we try to figure out our direction during our rebuild. Whether they reach 100 games or not, I really don't mind or care. It's like we're almost used to having every player playing 200 games for us that we have to set that standard for our kids too.

I agree with all your selections - except Walker and Burbury

Walker is a poor mans David Mensch - and Mensch was hopeless- if the aarse falls out of Geelong in the next 2 or 3 years - which it could - Walker will be gonzo

Burbury will be another Thurley - 3 or 4 years time he will be back at Glenorachy or Sandy Bay - he will slay them at that level

At this point in time. For posterity - review at a later date.

Just those who I think are probably not up to it :

Schroder, Burbury, Hartmann , Stringer.

Plus

Bews next if Thurlow/Hamling/plus a kid eg Kolod. show they have enough. Smedts traded to St. Kilda!
If Simpson and Vardy hold up and Blitz improves a little then we will pay out the front ended contract for HMac.

By years end, we will delist about 6 or 8, I reckon, plus a couple of vets for a big dip into the draft/trade ponds.
