Wouldn't be surprised at all if it was on a Sunday afternoon and rolling straight into the news broadcast at 6:00pm. Seven loves it's news ratings and having Nth V Ess before will boost their ratings even more. The winner may then play the following Saturday night and not the Friday.

This can't work if Hawthorn v Geelong game is on Friday night as expected.

Why? AFL don't care as long as the team gets a six day break. If loser of Nth v Ess plays the loser of Haw v Gee the Saturday night after what's the problem?

Because the loser of Hawthorn v Geelong will play the following Friday.

Why? Is that set in stone?
Because 99 times out of a 100 a team that plays on Friday in finals will play on Friday again the following week. Has happened every time.
It simply doesn't make any sense to give a home team 6 day break, and another home team 8 day break, when it can simply be 7 and 7 for both home teams in week 2.
