Take your pick then -->
1. Pendleberry, Swan, Sidebottom, Adams
2. Sloane, Dangerfield, Douglas, Thompson
3. Rockliff, Beams, Redden, Rich
or Priddis, Shuey, Selwood and Masten ?

Shuey, Yeo, Duggan & Gaff isn't so bad. A couple years off though.

A supporting cast of Selwood, Waterman, Sheed and Newman also looks pretty nice on paper.

All of those things are relatively unlikely but I get your point, obviously it's not purely about ladder position. But I mean on the balance of probabilities, if we drop to 14th then it's likely to be about more than s**t luck. If we are truly in the worst four teams of the league by the end of the year, that's a huge step back.

Yeah I'm not sure where that started it's just a pointless hypothetical.

Any radical drop in ladder position would likely be as a result of some lag effect in regards to our previous list management decisions hurting us, as well as Injuries. Bad coaching could be a part of it or we could be worse than we imagined.

It's interesting that with us being talked down by large sections of the AFL media does the perception on how well Simpson is coaching become altered? Does finishing 9-13 all of a sudden seem better? Irrespective of last years performance?

I'm generally not supportive of cutting coaches on the run, we should have read Worsfold his rights in 2010 but he proved he had something left. Though that dead cat bounce is hardly to our benefit now, we have done better staying down for longer or finishing lower in the years we did.

Ideally I'd like some long term planning and the coach has to be a part of that. Sacking a second year coach who inherited a dodgy list ill equipped for today's football comes across as a bad case of the tail wagging the dog.

Are we a top 8 side? Probably not yet, but.our draw is so soft that I can easily see us squeezing into the bottom 2 spots of the eight. It'll probably depend also on which middle of the road team recieves the biggest glut of injuries - ie if we lose a key back, Adelaide or Collingwood lose some key mids, gold coast lose Gary Ablett again plus some KPP players etc. There's 5 or 6 teams around our level of development which means it's down to the draw, luck and a team's random resurgency (hopefully by us) as to who makes the cut.

We'll have a much better midfield in a few years with Duggan, Waterman and Sheed.
Saw some of Duggan yesterday on the TV with East's v Subi and he got better as the game went on. Fimmano tackled Duggan like a demon in the 3rd quarter and he seemed to be rattled and was escorted off the ground and I very well expected that was the last we would see him but to his credit he was back on in the last and dropped a beautiful running goal from 50....could be decent.

Prediction retconning time

After tonight's sad display we look far more likely to drop to 14th-18th rather than rising to 8th-7th, although we'll most likely probably finish somewhere between 9th-13th again

Does anyone know what the projected draft pool is like this year? Talls? Mids? Vic Metro is supposedly going to be s**t i hear, and they usually supply some decent mids..

I just changed my vote from 3-4 to 11-12. I cast my original vote before Emac went down and after I saw our draw.

Fair enough haha. I would've put us at 5-6 before the loss of Mackenzie...Now we will be lucky to be near 8th spot I would think.

Brown was always going to go down, the guy can't last an AFL game. He usually goes down in the first 2-3 minutes as well..this time he lasted longer than usual.

You make quite a few 'strange' comments Jack_the_Ninja and whilst Brown is injury prone, he has played 90 AFL games, most of which have lasted more than 2-3 minutes, I would think.
I hear your frustrations. ;)

Amazing what 1 game has done to everyone's predictions.

Obviously due to Browns injury too, but our KPD depth right now is laughable. All good clubs have injuries, you can't blame them.
Not mine, I actually think we played to nearly 95% of our capacity which is very good for the first game. We were first rate at going over the back into our forward line and scoring, McGovern is going to be our new "Hunter" and Selwood is back playing the only position he can --> Tagging. I was very happy with how close we got compared to the Bulldogs our midfield is weak and they never had Libba as well.

oh my thread on the main bored been locked, oh well I had a bit of fun with it while it lasted.

but on the topic of this thread I believe we will finish around 11-16th
we are better then Saints and Carlton, Melbourne
Id say we are on par with GWS and Bulldogs even though they beat us.
