Baynham dominating the testing. Athletic freak.

Odds on can't play worth anything.

Never know what to take from the combine. It really only either reaffirms the top few or makes late/rookie picks a touch more evident.

He is also what, a 22 yr old competing against 17/18 yr olds. You would expect him to dominate, he is a fully-grown man competing against kids after all ...........

Impressive yes but how would Nic Nat test if he was tested at 22 ???
Probably not that well considering his recent injury history

Nic Nat at 22 would have been in 2012 when he was "AA" (not sure how that happened). he would have DEMOLISHED the combine, as would most AFL level players.

Fairly amazing for someone less than 6 ft to jump that high in the standing vertical jump test.
With these results I wouldn't be surprised if Cockatoo shoots up in contention.
Also lol at the two Americans who didn't manage to equal Naitanui/Brennan's running vertical jump even though they are four years older than they were when they tested.

It's all relative to the individuals height.

Yeah, I don't understand why the AFL doesn't publish more information from the combine. It shits me that they only release the top 10 each year.

Agreed, but isn't it because ultimately the results of these tests mean very little? So many guys have smashed the combine tests out of the park then either failed to be drafted or failed to make it at AFL level.

Marvin Baynham's 2.81 sprint in the 20 meter is the 6th best result ever at the National Combine. Those that ran faster than him, with their heights:

Joel Wilkinson (186cm) - 2.75 (2010)
Jonathon Marsh (193cm) - 2.78 (2013)
Brad Harvey (185cm) - 2.78 (2010)
Danyle Pearce (177cm) - 2.79 (2004)
Ash Smith (186cm) - 2.80 (2008)
Nathan Batley (186cm) - 2.81 (2010)
Adam Saad (178cm) - 2.81 (2012)

Baynham is 199cm.

For comparison's sake, here are the top fastest 20m sprint times at a National Combine among those 198cm or taller, with their standing and running vertical leap (Baynham 88cm and 95cm) thrown in for good measure:

Nic Naitanui (201cm) - 2.86, 78cm, 102cm (2008)
Jack Leslie (199cm) - 2.90, 63cm, 72cm (2013)
Laurence Angwin (198cm) - 2.93, 60cm, 86cm (2000)
Tyrone Vickery (200cm) -2.94, 52cm, 74cm (2008)
Dean Brogan (199cm)- 2.95, 68cm, 80cm (1999)

Thanks mate, good one, that goes towards proving the point of my previous post - that the combine results actually don't mean that much. Pearce won a Rising Star and has done well, Smith played less than 50 games, Wilkinson played 26 games, Marsh drafted at pick 77, Harvey rookied and played zero games, Batley undrafted, Saad undrafted. Not much correlation between a quick 20m sprint and AFL success!

Full South Australian results for the 20m sprint...

Oleg Markov (North) 186cm - 2.87 seconds
Dean Gore (Sturt) 183cm - 2.94 seconds
Jake Johansen (Port) 171cm - 2.95 seconds
James Rose (Sturt) 186cm - 2.97 seconds
Billy Stretch (Glenelg) 181cm - 2.99 seconds
Caleb Daniel (South) 168cm - 3.00 seconds
Sam Durdin (West) 197cm - 3.01 seconds
Tom Read (Sturt) 201cm - 3.02 seconds
Keenan Ramsey (Port) 192cm - 3.02 seconds
Cory Gregson (Glenelg) 175cm - 3.02 seconds
Declan Hamilton (Port) 183cm - 3.06 seconds
Brett Eddy (South) 194cm - 3.10 seconds
Alex Neal-Bullen (Glenelg) 182cm - 3.12 seconds
Josh Glenn (Central) 179cm - 3.13 seconds

As expected, Oleg Markov put up the fastest times. But the one who probably helped himself the most would have been Dean Gore, that's a very good time for someone of his build and playing style. The three big guys in Durdin, Read and Ramsey also did well.

Nothing to do with bias. There are hundreds of guys who have run under 3 minutes in the national combine. Its actually not that amazing of an accomplishment. I do think its interesting to distinguish between guys who are 178cm and 198cm though, as its obviously so much more rare (and coveted in the AFL) to have that type of athleticism at that size. There simply aren't that many people on the planet who are that height period, so to be able to run that fast and jump that high at that size has to be considered pretty impressive.

I agree that speed on its own does not guarantee anything. Combine that with size, reach, explosiveness and endurance (which we'll learn more about in the 3k), though, and you start to have the molding of a potentially interesting AFL player, at least athletically.

Sorry but that's what I aluding too , the difference in sizes for their capabilities
