QUOTE="MRB37, post: 42928342, member: 79861"]Not sure if Charlie would move full time. Could rotate a fair bit, do some thing like still have Seeds start on the wing, move him back, move someone like Hampton up nearer to the goals and then Cameron to the wing.[/QUOTE]
That's the fourth position for Hampton. So far he's replacing Smith as our running defender, Hartigan as a KPD, Thommo as our big bodied mid, and now Cameron as a small forward.

Fair dinkum

Edit - I guess it's no surprise given we also seem to be comparing him to one of the all time greats of the competition!!

I don't think there is room for a Thommo type clearance only player. I'm not sure any of the consistently best midfields over the last few years have one. What we got last year from Thommo is a player that works from stoppage to stoppage without being able to get to contests in general play to impact the outcome. And despite an apparent top 3-4 ruck am in the league and 2 of the best contested ball winners we allow pressure free clearances to our opponents which is in stark contrast to the way we often have to hack the ball forward. I think the foundation that we built our stoppage system is flawed and that it was Thommo's strengths that it was built around. I don't think we'll improve the quality of our clearances or reduce that of our opponents unless we start from scratch and forget about building a system based upon Thommo having a role.
Agree to disagree on that one , I think you need a balanced midfield where some players strengths make up for others weaknesses ... I also think thommo would have got a game at all clubs last year

Will see how he goes this year

I can't see him in either of the WA teams or Hawks midfield.

You can develop it to an extent but as you say you either have it or you don't.
Priddis did a lot of specialist sprint training to improve his leg speed before finally being drafted by WCE. He still isn't quick, but managed to improve enough to make an AFL list and get a shot after being overlooked in several drafts, and rookie drafts. He trained with the Crows at one stage.

Hope so .......his fitness levels have been the ???? .......IMO he looks as fit as he's ever been ...maybe seeing his football mortality & wants to give his all, OR he's just loving the Crows environment ?

Probably a bit of both. Carlton wouldn't have been the best place to develop in the last decade.

What? You are surprised that people are unsure of where Hampton fits into the team? What do you expect?

Where do you see him fitting in then? It's easy to criticise, but surely you understand the expectations on Curtly are high for a reason.

Personally I don't think he will make the side initially.

So far then our team is looking something like this;

Betts Menzel Hampton
Lynch Walker Menzel
Seedsman Crouch Menzel
Hampton Hampton Seedsman
Lever Talia Brown
Jacobs Hampton Menzel

Milera, Smith, Laird, Crouch

Have I got it right?
No Mackay?

There is always room for a Thommo type , I go so far as to say he would be harder to replace than PD,
Thommo is the best players for reading losing rucks, and stopping opposition runs from stoppage's in the Crows side and has been for a few years, he the is best defensive mid around stoppage's in the side. Who was the first player they put in the middle when teams got the run on,
He in the side every day of the week, and is the best midfielder in the Crows,
And the foundation of any team is to get the ball first. The problem the Crows had for years is lack good outside Mids that know how to position themselves or to be brutally honest know haw to read a game. A hangover from Craig's days.
This year is the strongest I have seen the Crows with true outside mids in a long time, But in order to take advantage of that you need Thommo type players.

What do you mean by initially - NAB - first round - first half of the season - only comes in due to an injury to one of the 22? Why do you think he will miss selection?
I think he will start in the SANFL. Depends on form/injury from there.

I think there are too many in the queue in front of him. I haven't seen a lot of him but all reports are there is a big gap between his best and worst, so I think our coaches will want to see some consistency from him.

His fitness may also be a ? Given an interrupted PS

Simpson mentioned that we will likely play the kids for our NAB clash, leaving most of our senior players to play games 2 and 3.

Has Pyke given any indication about the approach you will take for our game?
Given our long trip to country WA including hours of flights and buses in week 2 I'd predict a 70%+ strength side for nab 1, weakened for nab 2 and strongest minus niggles and game time for round 3

Fair call ... He's on the cusp like a few , some good performances in nab could get him over the line or vice versa . By no means a shoe in

Haven't heard one yet, though I'd take a guess and say if we were to rest senior players we may do it in games 2 and 3 where we have to travel to Perth and then Gold Coast.

Interesting pre-season isn't it? New faces make the selection prediction very hard. We just do not know how players like Hampton, Seedsman, Menzel, Milera fit in yet. They could be boom or bust ... Most likely somewhere in between.
