The Port board is hilarious - the Ken Hinkley thread a classic. If it continues watch membership no. drop off.

Interesting that their defensive style is seen as the problem - Bassets influence who has bought the boring slow play to the club (much like he did at Norwood - a cure for insomnia and yes he won flags but made the game boring).
Norwood under Bassett wasn’t boring, the opposition were as they couldn’t break down their defensive structure.

So is that 2 years in a row both teams have lost coming back from China...

Don’t think the Suns losing shows any sort of pattern other then business as usual.

Living in Qld I’m keen for both teams up here to be seriously competitive to help grow the game, but bloody hell the Suns better players must be lining up outside their managers office every Monday morning asking about offers from other clubs.

I noticed McKernan was his typical self yesterday. He does the odd good thing and then ruins it by brain farting. Dude still, after all these years, has the awareness of an amateur grade footballer.

I saw Henderson squib a contest in the Hawks/Port game too. He stands out like donkeys balls in that side.

Afl have spread the talent too thin, this is meant to be the elite national competition not every tom dick and harry can get a game.

4 maybe even 6 teams too many. That would be sixty plus of the best players put into the remaining 12 teams pushing the worse 5 or 6 players out. s**t we might even drop MacKay if that happened.

Would solve so many problems -
Not as many top quality umps required.
Vic sides would travel more often.
Play each side twice in a season.
Less shitty games in shitty time slots.
Would be less money in the game.
Clubs would struggle to be viable - less possible income but much of the overhead would remain
Players would choose to be professional in different sports.
League and Soccer would grow and dominate in NSW and Sydney, which are massive financial and media markets
Media would focus on national sports
AFL would end up like it was in 1987 - only broadcast on ABC and clubs going broke

They're bipolar over there. When they lost to Geelong earlier in the year they wanted him sacked there and then, beat us & Suns and suddenly Hinkley is a world beater again, now another loss sees the bump of the Hinkley thread. This has been going on for years now. Rinse and repeat.

Logic not a strong suit of the PAPs.

One nuffie on the MB saying if Impey is recruit of the year, that means he must have been a good player at Port. Um, what?

The mid 2000s slow build up with fixed positioning does not work anymore.

It is why Paul Roos struggled with the Dees and Lyon is done.

Sadly for Tealsters their next coach will be KTs mate Bassett.

Had Polec not marked the ball on the goal line against Brisbane and Dougie not ran into Gov Port would be 4 and 6.

Those two acts cover a lot of their issues and fundamental problems with their Football program.

They could also have won yesterday

I don't know if that's anything to do with the China trip, though. More likely just the fact that they're sending 2 pretty ordinary teams to China that would be a fair chance of losing even if they hadn't gone.
Probably but let's make it a thing though.

The China Curse has a nice ring to it. Attracting a big Vic club for next year? Sorry

All the worst bits of Bassets game, led by the clueless hinkley. Make basset head coach and it might actually work.

Good contested mark and then plays on, only to get caught holding the ball by a guy standing pretty much next to him the entire time. Absolutely zero awareness.

He should come back to the Crows as apparently a heap of our players have developed their awareness this year! :D

Have you read what some of our posters posted in the game day thread, or in the GBU or changes threads after the Melbourne and Collingwood games? Not a lot of difference with some of them.

The funny thing watching Port putting up mediocre performances is that their top end is either 30 or very close to it and they don't have much of a window left, so every year Hinkley wastes brings them closer to losing Gray, Westhoff, Boak, Ryder, Ebert etc with no success to show for it.

Hopefully Hinkley sees out the end of current contract because around that time the bottom would have dropped out of their list and Ken can then leave the club as he found it.

Can see all 3 of mids hitting the wall very soon
Boak carried that midfield in the Primus era and his body has copped a beating, same can be said for Ebert with his high contested game

Gray could play permanent forward, but in all seriousness his body has also been giving a hiding due to serious illness, not sure if that impacts on his longevity?

Westhoff will be around a while yet similar to Dustin Fletcher played a bruise free brand for years and has looked after himself
