I don't really care who takes the field for Footscray on Saturday and I don't rejoice in players from any team missing what are the biggest games of their lives through injury.

We've seen this story before, when we lost the 2002 and 2003 QFs to teams that were depleted with injuries to key players.

Footscray are a good side and, regardless of injuries, will field a formidable team that deserves respect. Port needs to anticipate that it's playing a team of superstars this week and prepare accordingly both physically and mentally.

Spot on - you don't make it to the top 4 if you can't play, and the prize this week is a spot in a grand final. You can bet your life that the 22 players from each team who cross that white line on Saturday night will hit every contest at a million miles an hour, because nobody knows if they'll ever get another chance to play in the biggest game of the year.

Hope he brings Martin in. Can't see him having a massive impact after being out for so long, and as you say that will be two sore players of theirs in a preliminary final. Playing injured or under done players traditionally never works.

Can you see the irony of that? Poor Tommy can’t even make the final 23 now and is considered by some as a traceable commodity.

No, not at all. Clurey is a good player, and prior to the injury was at the top of his game. Losing him when we did meant we were a tall defender short, and dramatically altered Aliir Aliir's game, and ultimately affected the entire team.

McKenzie currently is slightly better form, but that doesnt detract from Clurey's contribution to the overall team. His continuing to find form in the Maggies will be pushing McKenzie to be at his best. If McKenzie goes down, Clurey is an automatic inclusion.

So in fact, the traceable commodity you mention, is more the position they play, rather than the player themselves.

He's one of the few umpires that doesn't fall for the bullshit whipping the head back frees like the other umps do
