Fell down the conspiracy theory rabbit hole amongst Essendon fans on Twitter.

Apparently Adrian Dodoro knows so much incredibly damaging information on the club and is such a spiteful person that the club has no choice but to appease him and keep him in the job he's had for 25 years or risk him spilling the beans.

Is it true? Probably not.

Is it fun to imagine a world where Essendon only have two choices - keep a dud list manager who has got them nowhere or suffer more public scandals? Absolutely.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but it would explain a lot!

They should have bit the bullet when they were suspended after the drugs scandal. How much worse could things have gotten?

they turned a debacle into something far worse ... largely, from what i thought at the time, to protect the reputation of their golden child (hird)
and still didn't manage it
the comparison to the cronulla club in the nrl is obvious ... cronulla copped it, took their medicine and eventually climbed back to the point they won a premiership in 2016
meanwhile, essendon are still suffering the consequences of their own hubris and arrogance

They were too busy trying to plead innocent because you couldn't prove what they had taken.

Absolute hubris and arrogance on their part. How dare the AFL question such a proud club with such a rich tradition. Who are they to question a big 4 club like Essendon?

I think there was a bit of butt covering mixed in for good measure.

I just sit back and rejoice in their shitfullness while our club work their butts off to overcome all the disadvantages we have to remain professional and successful. Makes me proud to be a swans supporter.

That's why we've consistently played finals while they haven't won a final in an eternity. Long may it continue!!

Can confirm this isn't the first time I've heard that.

Makes you wonder. He's been there 25 years(!)

The things he would know...

Perhaps he has that spreadsheet they couldn't find

In general I don't have sympathy for EFC but actually in relation to the supplements scandal, the AFL really screwed them (and especially Hird) over. Not saying EFC did nothing wrong but the AFL scapegoated them. Gold Coast and Geelong were other clubs reported as being dubiously involved in dodgy supplements issues. See The Boys Club. The whole thing got a terrible momentum and the AFL cornered EFC and made them (and especially Hird) take the fall. Essendon pushed things too far but they have paid a terrible price.

yes, not at all saying the afl acted (then or at other times) with any honour ... but from memory essendon refused to concede anything, weren't interested in any compromise where they accepted that they had been guilty, even at the very least, of dubious, if not just plain stupid behaviour

but overall, it backed up one of my biggest observations on my time living in melbourne; that the afl as a whole and crown casino seem to operate, or believe they operate, outside the general laws of the land and any accountability to the paying public

And they still refuse to admit they did anything wrong
