Delisted #28: Elliott Kavanagh - Gone to play SANFL

Reality is that Kavanagh needs to lift his game to stay on the list. Reality is he was outclassed by Gaff.
Agree, but surely the latter was expected? Gaff is the Eagles' best outside mid, and has played 90-odd games. Kav, despite being a 4th year player, is only through 9.

Kav has earned an extended run at it.

I sit on the fence with Kav, no actually I probably side a little with the negative and fingers firmly crossed.
But if you have a look at the 2011 draft there isn't much talent after his pick (19), so the fact that he is still a chance of making it is a bonus.
For now....

Yeah it's a weird draft. Not many players or any at all who went after him you'd pick at Pick 19 on the day. You would've paid overs on the day for Yeo (30), Hill (33), Neale (58) had you picked them at 19.

Wasn't Seb Ross the other one we were into at that pick?

They are both similar ages and both 4th year players.

It's irrelevant. You nearly always play against more experienced players when you've played 10 games.

You can't pick and choose your opponents. THIS is the type of battle in which Kavanagh must do better if he is to sustain an AFL career

Hope to see him get a decent string of senior games - whether or not we think he'll make it, we should give him every opportunity.

Common misconceptions about kav...

1. He's slow (Only colyer, zaharakis would be quicker than him in the midfield)
2. He needs to improve his tank (endurance is his best asset...see draft camp/time trials)
3. He's a winger (actually an inside mid and should be in the circle not outside the square)
4. Disposal efficiency is lacking (where tf did this come from ??)

When you pick up the Monday morning paper and Robbo is suggesting that Gaff must surely be in the AA winger conversation, makes you wonder that no one on our list was going to any good

Gaff is having a good year no doubt - But Kavanagh will often come across this type of opponent - The ball's in his court.

So, he's fast, has great endurance and is a great user of the ball and has played 9 games in 4 years??? What am I missing here?

Black Kavanagh! .. so was Gaff Hay list?

Common misconceptions about kav...

1. He's slow (Only colyer, zaharakis would be quicker than him in the midfield) - He is run of the mill
2. He needs to improve his tank (endurance is his best asset...see draft camp/time trials) - Has decent endurance but lacks in footy smarts. Doesn't know how to get in the right spot. Also is not a two way runner which has limited his AFL apperances.
3. He's a winger (actually an inside mid and should be in the circle not outside the square) - Agree. Plays his best as an inside player
4. Disposal efficiency is lacking (where tf did this come from ??)- It comes from watching him play live. The majority of the time he gets the ball he simply slams it on his boot.

repsonses in the quote.
