5-day breaks don't help they should not exist in Professional AFL, it's a 360 game with twist & turns and they run 15km a game and take knocks and bruises.

You need 5-day breaks if you're gonna have Thursday night games. Otherwise the TV rights won't be as high.

Put that to the players with the subsequent salary changes and I guarantee what their answer will be.

Also, something that never gets mentioned but is really important is when you do an ACL.

It's still 12 months until you're absolutely 100% impact training and play without compromise.

This is by far the worst time of the year to do it. They miss all of 2024, then miss next pre-season (or it is highly compromised. That ruins their 2025 too as players that don't have full pre-seasons are chasing their tails for the whole season to keep up.

If you do it toward the end of the season (say for example Daniel McStay)... you still miss a year but at least you are 100% to start next pre-season and then you'll be flying into Round 1 2025.

For Gibcus, Coleman, Docherty... it's a two year injury in many ways. Destroys the player.

The worst time is July or August as many times you miss the next season. Kills a season and a half. Sicily did his is August 2020 and didn't play again until 2022

Tom Doedee has re-injured his knee again ACL partial tear on the same knee he has been rehabbing terrible news.
