On a club by club basis maybe, from what little we know of the annual reports maybe.

What are you trying to say here?

Logically, if the AFL clubs are selling more merchandise on a club basis then the AFL is selling more merchandise than the NRL.
That's irrespective of the AFL having two more clubs.

licensing revenue is generally collected by the governing body. not the clubs.

This clip from the Buzzs article in Sydney Telegraph pretty much outlines where the NRL sits with the public of Sydney at the moment. Surely Alarm bells are ringing.

The ‘official’ crowd at Allianz Stadium for the Roosters v Cowboys last night was 18,355 for one of the most remarkable finals matches you will ever see.

Roosters 31, Cowboys 30. What a game. What a colossal contest. It deserved so much more.

Over at Homebush, the AFL got 48,029 as the Swans beat North Melbourne to qualify for next Saturday night’s grand final.

Of even more concern for the NRL was the rush for soccer tickets for the A League derby between Sydney FC and the Western Sydney Wanderers, which is still a month away.

A remarkable 27,000 tickets have been sold in three days this week.

Not quite sure how soccer tickets in the NRL off season is reflective on the NRL, perhaps it is a sign that Sydney is no longer the home of RL in the world, perhaps the batton has been passed on to the Western suburbs of Brisbane and rural QLD.

Andrew Johns and Even Dave Smith believe that to be the case.

That crowd number is no different to when North Queensland have played in Sydney in a finals game over the years. It is actually an increase on other games except preliminary finals.

Dave Smith believes no such thing.

From the 6 games that have been played so far in the NRL finals, they've had an average of 23,346. That is still s**t whatever way you look at it, and still fewer than what the VFL grand final got.

http://news.smh.com.au/breaking-news-sport/nrl-finals-crowds-up-on-last-year-20140922-3gci8.html

It's s**t compared to Australian Football, but then that isn't anything new is it?

I really don't know why Jules would write something so dumb. In a like v like comparison in this weekends NRL games one will (most likely) smash the Swans v North attendance figure and the other will go close, while the VFL figure will be miles off both games.

It's just banter, and most here would find it funny that a match in our second tier comp (that we don't really care about) got a bigger crowd than the majority of NRL finals.

You don't care about a second tier comp which has been the heart and soul of Victorian footy since 1877 and which became the the catalyst for a National Comp? Each to their own I guess.

Nice straw man argument there. I'm sure you are already well aware that the majority of clubs left that comp way back in 1897 and started their own. So I have always followed the league that was the catalyst for the national comp.

Not allowed to banter on this board and definetly no fun.

We need stats and links and they must be passed certifiable and then and only then can they be posted.

Like v like? Both games have teams from the same city.

Not sure if the Fin Review is just trolling, or they just drink their own bath water up north.

The NRL plans to target the game’s potential eight million fans using big data from social media giant Facebook to knock off the AFL as the premier sport in Australia.
