Still we've got another year or two before we need another key defender. So it's not panic stations yet.

Agree that this is at least some small consolation. Lonergan made the AA squad and doesn't look to be in decline, so we should be set for another year or two. Beyond that, though, we're in trouble. Frawley was crucial for the medium and long-term health of our list. We don't have anyone to bridge the gap between Lonergan and Kolo/Hamling now, and that's a significant problem.

How many times over the last few years has Scott made it incredibly obvious who we're going after, only for them not to be landed?
Don't think a smirk on his face when asked the question is incredibly obvious.

Yeah, notice how the Hawks just subtly go about getting their guys. They don't make a massive song and dance about it in the media. How many times over the last few years has Scott made it incredibly obvious who we're going after, only for them not to be landed?

It only goes like that when they have grand finals to keep themselves occupied. Hawthorn's public interest in Burgoyne, Hale and Gibson was very clear at the time.

Frawley would of been a handy inclusion, but he's not the position we need filled atm.

A grade ruckman would be 1st priority

Key forward next priority (tick)

Another gun midfielder to help Selwood next

then

Key back, but that can still be fixed over next 2 years, or develop our own, which is what's currently happening

before frawley nominated hawks
his a gun backman who will take geelong to a premiership, our defense will be epic, a masterstroke move by chris scott, mission accomplished

after frawley nominated hawks
clark is easy the better of the two, we have hartman and kolo who have much better upside plus lonergan can play for another 4 seasons, chris scott has dodged a bullet, mission accoplished

Frawley would be great but it's not the end of the world, I just think this puts a hold on our premiership aspirations for 2015 as we may now have the oldest and slowest backline in the competition.

Frawley wouldn't have mitigated the slowness of our backline. Of course, his arrival at Hawthorn probably indirectly worsens our 2015 premiership chances, since he undoubtedly improves their lackluster KPD stocks.

Frawley will slow their defence down a touch when you consider all of Lake, Gibfag, Frawley and Stratton will all be down there.

Disagree.

full backs take a number of years to develop (if you don't get a ready made one), if Lonergan is retiring at the end of 2015 then we need to have that no.1 full back already on the list - which we don't. Mids are easier to get, and we have more on our list. No quality up and coming full backs.

Hamling probably won't make it, and Kolo plays more a third tall like rivers. We have zero options.

In light of Frawley going to hawks, we need to:

1. Draft Goddard/Marchbank with our first pick.
2. Still look to trade one in during this period, or next.
3. Play Blicavs in defense for large chunks of 2015 to give him the best shot at becoming a KPD.

This is huge blow because now the Hawks have their defense strengthened significantly for a long period. Almost like an 8 point game.

have you ever said anything positive about the team apart from letting us know that Kersten has a big dick?

someone has to stir the optimists up booby.

id rather watch geelong with both eyes and call it how i see it then be a single minded stubborn one eye supporter.

Lol these types of posts are stupid unless you can source the hypocritism coming from the same individuals. Geelong board bigfooty is not a single individual being.

An A grade ruckman would of had us in 1 of the last 2 grand finals. That is the biggest hole in our list.

I'm not going to cry over losing out on a full back to some other team that came from the worst team the AFL has seen in a long time.

Frawley would have been handy, I wont call it anything other than handy

This is why I am an atheist. No god would allow Hawthorn such unreasonable and disproportionate success.

Have to hope JK becomes a KPD, rather than a 3rd tall defender. And have to hope he does it quickly.

Frawley would have been a damn sight more than handy, from 2016 onward.

Could he not have picked Collingwood. Did it have to be the Hawks?
I mean for *s sake really?!?!?!o_O

Oh well… done now…

Still feels a little like someone banged my missus but whatever……

When its all over and does not matter anymore Id love to know what turned him off Geelong ( don't care so much what made Hawks attractive) and whether Mitch Clarke coming to us had anything to do with it….

Here's hoping Scooter gets some refreshing family clarity the next few weeks and Patty finds s new fishing hole at Moggs that he just can't leave….

And btw, I reckon the AFL media department are bonn have their hands full. Last few years seen the biggest FA type players leave lower clubs for clubs that have just won Flags. Yup.. equalisation workingman aboslute TREAT!

Far out,do you ever stop bitching ?
Did Scotty park in your handicap spot one day and that's why you have so much hatred ?

Perhaps you should just bugger off and support another club while Scott is coach.Do us all a favour.

Maybe he just couldn't be bothered moving house? Didn't want to commute as far? Who knows.

It was our backline which effectively conceded 6 goals to North Melbourne's Petrie & Thomas in the first two quarters alone which sealed our fate.
Our backline can't defend against an onslaught of high quality inside 50s.

Geelong's problem is in the middle. We have one clearance getting machine (Selwood), one high quality inside/outside attacking mid (Duncan), and a bunch of injured or young players, and no effective rucks.

You can't measure forwards or defenders in absolute terms. They don't decide how much or how well the ball comes in. Even Harry Taylor can't stop goals if it comes in enough, especially fast and low from decent opposition mids under low pressure.
