Politics Benefits of mining in Australia?

you are stupid? did you not read the article?????? did you see how the peak shifted.... what do you think that means???? you are stupid. I'll help you.... its reduced Peak and now peak happens later in the day. OMG....

That was for South Australia. You were talking about Hazelwood in Victoria. Victoria was the second graph.

You didn't read your own sources properly.

what claim? they havent claimed anything.... you are just trolling.

"By 2050 greenhouse gas emissions will have to be reduced drastically. Rich countries should become carbon neutral. This does not mean no emissions from the countries in question. But it does mean that each tonne of greenhouse gases emitted is to be offset by an equivalent reduction elsewhere. This adds up to zero emissions," he said.

what has that got to do with anything???? we are discussing the minning boom and solar. Not when Norway wants to be Carbon neutral????

Actually the post you were responding to was actually in reply to 'Scotland.' We were discussing Norway. Then you chimed in that they haven't claimed anything. Well actually yes they have.

I just thought its a bit dodgy to claim your a going to be carbon neutral by selling a lot of oil and gas.

why??? is that the aim of most countries???? seriously you are a twit.

Its not that it can't be done. It's that it can't be done cost effectively.

Not every country has the water flow to go full Hydro.

Norway is a great case and point for using the best system that works for that jurisdiction.

having a small population, mountains and high rain fall, it is hard to go past hydro especially when you are connected to neighbours for both exporting and importing.

We need to consider what technologies are best for here and remember we are competing with cheap energy (like Norway). So if we want industry we should aim for affordable power generation.

Out of interest, how does Australia's power generation compete with Norway's? How does solar compete with hydro in terms of price and reliability?

You don't see the contradiction of buying carbon credits through the sale of oil and gas? Does Norway have a seperate atmosphere from the rest of the planet?

so that would make Australia 100 times worse wouldnt it??? selling dirty coal to who ever wants it??? Norway a Contradiction???? do you understand what Carbon neutral means???? have you ever seen a tree grow? Are you suggesting Norway shouldnt strive to be Carbon neutral????

Thats a hard question what I do know though its that Australia actually is much more energy efficient then Norway:

http://theconversation.com/australia-v-norway-does-garnauts-comparison-add-up-1724

It is also useful to note that Australia’s population is about 4.5 times larger than Norway’s. Australia consumes about 9.9 TWh of electricity per million population, while Norway consumes about 23.5 TWh per million population.

Horses for courses.

There is no way for Australia to replicate the electricity generation mix found in Norway. Australia already has increased the share of geothermal, solar and wind in its generation mix by more than Norway without a price on carbon.

No it simply means Australia isn't a hypocrite. Australia isn't going around calling itself "the leader in green energy."

Is it really carbon neutral if you simply sell the emissions to another country and buy your way using the proceeds of the very same deal? Does the CO2 suddenly disappear because the fuel is being burnt somewhere else?

and solar had a HUGE part in that.

5% was a decrease in consumption
the remainder would be other sources like solar

it still shows solar has its place but at what cost. was it the best solution?

Norway arent out there telling anyone what to do.... by 2050 they wont have much oil left.
They currently dont use fossil fuels for its electricty grid.... they use sewage to run some apartment blocks heating.... they are leaders in solar silicon cells and renewable energy technology.... they are a clever country with the richest poor people and the poorest rich people (but they have their share of billionaires) ... calling the a hypocrite is probably the stupiest thing I have seen written anywhere... are you an Abbott adviser?

they can also throttle them down and throttle them up..... but I am sure you are just trolling and you do know how to use Google.

why google? surely you could just post the article or link so we are debating the same issue.

Yeah they just export the problem to other countries and buy carbon credits with the proceeds. Real eco warriors.

They may do the research in Norway but they build the solar cells in China.

Their entire green economy is based on fossil fuels.

eco warriors???? no harnessing fee electricty is smart. You are a dickhead,

http://www.wholesalesolar.com/rec-solar-panels.html made in Norway and in the US even with high wage cost...... twit.

Yeah but they get outsold by Chinese ones even with the tariffs.

The fact is renewables are not cost competitive. They might be in the future but not now. Everything about them now is subsidized. From their creation, to their sale to their use, all subsidized.

If you want to go solar fine, but do it out of your own pocket and stop leeching.
