It's a problem the Saints need to rectify team-wide because leading into round seven, they had the worst kick rating of any side this year (-7.6 per cent), with Brisbane (-7.4 per cent) and the Western Bulldogs (-7 per cent) just ahead.

Kick rating (%) since 2014 of players with at least 100 shots

-10.9 Jack Billings (St Kilda)
-9.1 Maverick Weller (St Kilda)

-8.8 Luke Dahlhaus (Western Bulldogs)
-8.2 Chris Mayne (Fremantle/Collingwood)
-7.7 Lewis Jetta (Sydney/West Coast)
-7.0 Lachie Hunter (Western Bulldogs)
-6.3 Sam Gray (Port Adelaide)
-5.9 Elliot Yeo (West Coast)
-4.7 Shane Edwards (Richmond)
-4.6 Levi Casboult (Carlton)

In his 70 game career, Billings has kicked 54.80 - so 40% accuracy.
Must be a few on the full as well.
4.11 this year so only 26% accuracy. Horrific stuff.

Weller 54.62 from 110 games.

By contrast young Dan Butler from the Tiges has 37.20 from just 30 games.

It was interesting hearing Roo comment on a play by Hawkins a few weeks back, where he ran around onto his left rushed a shot when he had more time and missed. He was saying that when a player is low on confidence they often don't realise they have more time.

This really rings true for Billings - I think he panics a lot in the forward line. Those three missed snaps from about 30m out last week are testament to it; had way more time and really it's the kind of shot that he would slot every time in training.

He needs to take more time and stop rushing shots on goal. Same goes for Weller and Newnes.

As for his set-shots, well that's a whole other kettle of fish but I'd like to see him try to kick the ball low through the goals like he is pinpointing a pass.

billings plays selfish, never ever looks for a player in a better position. trys to kick impossible goals
especially when there is no clear game plan, when the ball goes into the forward line, who leads to what side

Melb today the big forwards moved to the side that benefited there right foot
bruce is/was notorious for being on wrong side

Disagree, he’s almost too selfless at times. I suspect to mask his accuracy issues
