Changes (if any) for Melbourne

Doesnt matter. Barring a miracle it will be rained out.

Boxing Day will be the only dry day of the test match with rain predicted for the next 4 days of the match.

Sydney Test will be a bit better. 1st day likely to be rained out and the morning of the 2nd and thats it

Interesting to look at the current domestic performances by Test contenders:

Jacques - 16
Khawaja - 21
Maddinson - 137
O'Keefe - 1
Marsh - 5, 50
North - 2, 14
Cosgrove - 100, 86* (off 53!)
Ferguson - 0, 15
D.Hussey - 0
White - 60
McDonald - 0, 3/1 (injured)

Beer - 0/27, 0/25
Doherty 1/11, 0/31
Hauritz 98*

Bring in Cosgrove and Hauritz!

I honestly can't see them dropping Hughes after one Test, nor Clarke or Ponting. Either Hilf or Siddle may go for a spinner, hopefully Hauritz rather than Beer.

interview with chappelli on the radio just now.

punter looks like he has a fracture on the small finger.

Out: Ponting In: Khawaja. Ponting is in such poor form anyway and I can't see that being in discomfort/wary of a knock is going to assist. Rest the finger and get right for Sydney I think.

Out: Siddle In: Hauritz. Unlucky to Siddle but need a specialist spinner I think for Melbourne and Hauritz has done everything that could possibly be asked of him since getting dropped (including two tons!)

With no-one really putting their hand up to take his place (bar Cosgrove maybe) I would retain Hughes and show some faith in him to turn it around.

Ponting for Khawaja if required, but I'd prefer Punter playing mildly injured. He's due a big score and loves the MCG.

Wait to see how NSW bowl against Queensland, if Hauritz (or O'Keefe) bowl really well I'd have them in for Siddle (not that the selectors are likely to drop a Victorian for Boxing day) but no point in including a spinner for the sake of it after that performance.

Listening to the praise Ponting and particularly Johnson have given Hilf it doesn't sound like he'll be dropped, which is good.

Siddle isn't offering much with the ball at the moment. I wish Andrew McDonald was fit. That would be the only change for mine.

Question for everyone have we moved past Hauritz or is he still in the frame?

Hauritz..............................................................

COme on down

Hauritz needs to take more wickets before he's brought back. Making runs doesn't account for his average performances with the ball in recent times (prior to the Ashes series). It will probably no change. The likely one to be out is Siddle but even then I doubt they'd drop him on his home ground.

would love to see cosgrove get a gig, everyone knows he has the talent, much better than hughes technically as well, IMO even though we won our batsman underperformed significantly, Hughes needs to go for either Katich (not sure of his fitness status) or Marsh, we just can't afford to keep losing a wicket before we reach 20 or 30

if we go four quicks then Smith stays, we need a spinner for melbourne
