Cricket Discussion - Part 2

The batting has been concerning for awhile it feels an unbalanced order with two old fart openers.
It's such a shame that Will Pucovski keeps getting injured, because the kid has talent. Having Smith and Khawaja at the top of the order is nothing more than a short term fix, given the fact that Usman is 38, and Smith really isn't an opener. The selectors now have a decision to make - continue with something that hasn't worked, or find a proper opener. Either way, I'd say Jasprit Bumrah will already be having pleasant dreams about the bundles of wickets he'll be taking in Australia later this year.

It does seem interesting to me as well that 3 of our last 4 test series, we've won the first half, usually convincingly, but then lost the second. West Indies win the first, lose the second. England win the first 2, draw the third, lose tests 4 and 5. Now NZ win the first, but gonna take a mighty effort to get across the line in the second.

Even if we do win from here there does seem to be a bit of a pattern forming.

There is no doubt Smith has been a sensational player but yesterday he looked like a district batsman out of his league, the overcompensation for the gap between his bat and pad with that extravagant shuffle towards the offside to try and cover one problem created two more issues.

Firstly he had to play at deliveries outside the off stump that many genuine opening batsmen could let go, and secondly as soon as the bowler got one to straighten on the stumps he was a prime target for LBW, hence yesterday's dismissal.

There wouldn't have been too many test bowlers in the history of the game who couldn't have exploited that lack of technique in a batsman, it's time for the Aussie selectors to start making the tough decisions regardless of any players past performances or reputation.

I think in a more general sense we've lost the competition for spots that can make everyone better. What happened to sending people back to first class then using them to apply pressure to those in the side?

The Australian selectors want Green and Marsh in the side and don't want to drop old heroes like Smith and Labuschagne.

Even as much as we love Travis Head he runs hot and cold for long periods.

They are going to wind up with a whole new batting order overnight.

Australia wins and Cummins denies Carey at shot at the century.

Australia looked dead and buried at 4/34 and 5/80. Fantastic knocks from Carey and Marsh.

Meanwhile, the Redbacks went from having a solid opening partnership to 4/93

The sad thing is you could post this an hour in advance.
We are so predictably bad every single time.
The last time our Shield team showed any real heart or fight is when Hookesy was still playing.
Since then we can be relied upon to self implode at the drop of a hat.
