This isn't Fall Shortelaide hahaThis will end up like the windies test at the yabba, in which we’ll fall short. Either way changes are needed both personnel and psychologically before the next home summer.

Made two consecutive Shield finals a few years ago, but back to the same old storyThe sad thing is you could post this an hour in advance.
We are so predictably bad every single time.
The last time our Shield team showed any real heart or fight is when Hookesy was still playing.
Since then we can be relied upon to self implode at the drop of a hat.

I reckon that might be the one time Kez would have preferred not to have that crack at the century.Australia wins and Cummins denies Carey at shot at the century.
Australia looked dead and buried at 4/34 and 5/80. Fantastic knocks from Carey and Marsh.
I would like to make a retraction. Inglis will have to wait another summer.Carey with those friggen premeditated sweeps. I think this is his last game for Australia.

Its interesting to have such a fringe player who seemed like clearly their 4th best bowler in this match as captain.Southee an old warhorse now. I remember first seeing him as a 20(ish) year old when NZ played SA at Adelaide Oval. Back in the good old days before T20 took a stranglehold on the schedule.
Carey did say in the after match interview he didn't want to face another ball, and clearly Cummins was looking to hit the winning runs off just about every ball he faced in that last over so I'm assuming he must have told him to go for it.
This Australian team is far from being the best ever, but one thing it has loads of is guts - we're never beaten until the final wicket falls. A win like that will give the boys plenty of confidence for next summer against India
You're right - we'll need to improve markedly to knock India off. They seem to have all bases covered, and still have to find room for Kohli, which is scary (but not in a Hinkley/finals way). It'll be a great effort to beat them!!!At the moment it is a team that is being carried by the bowlers interspersed with the occasional individual batting effort. In the First test it was Cam Green who stood up and in this Test it was left to Labuschagne, Carey and Marsh. In the past four Tests the top order has not stood up as a unit.
Thus far the Steve Smith experiment has not been a roaring success. In eight innings as an opener Smith has only passed 50 once and 30 twice. For all his heroics in the First innings of this series Cam Green has only passed 50 once in four Tests and since his 119 against the West Indies in Adelaide Travis Head has not made it past 30 in seven subsequent innings. The worst performer is Marnus Labuschagne who has only made it into double figures twice in eight innings.
A good fighting win and the talent is there but there is also a lot of work to be done before the team faces India.
Nah Test cricket is always about individuals standing up. I've got a Saffer mate, and he's always said there's always somebody in the Aus team that stands up and makes a century. It's true. Look at the scorecards. Cricket is a team sport played by individuals. You only need 1 guy to stand up. Sometimes 2. That's Test cricket. At the moment it is a team that is being carried by the bowlers interspersed with the occasional individual batting effort. LOL Darryl Mitchell apparently said after the game that "the outcome isn't as important as the way we play", sounding suspiciously like a certain English counterpart. Former Kiwi captain Jeremy Coney was having none of it, saying that Mitchell's comment was a load of crap - or words to that effect.

Cummins does it again - with the bat - as he has done several times.
He's rapidly becoming one of our great captains - the mark of a good leader is their ability to lead by example, and Cummins has that trait in spades!!!You couldn't have asked for a better innings from a lower order batsman yesterday, he completely took the sting off Carey to do it all after two quick wickets. Great little captain's knock.
They also mentioned that his wickets in the second innings were all the set batters. He broke NZs three most significant partnerships. He's rapidly becoming one of our great captains - the mark of a good leader is their ability to lead by example, and Cummins has that trait in spades!!!
Don't be so sure about SA being on top of Tassie - we're now 5 for 72.FFS - in the space of an hour WA have gone from being a chance to host the Shield final to probably missing it altogether. Had a first innings lead of 100 over the Vics, and with SA on top of Tassie they were in a good position to pinch top spot, but are now 4/31 in their second innings and looking vulnerable.
