As per the HUN, the AFL referred this to police.

DUAL AFL premiership player David King is under police investigation over bets he allegedly placed on one of footy’s most prestigious awards.
The former star wingman is under scrutiny over successful wagers he placed on last year’s Rising Star award for the league’s best rookie.

It was won by Brisbane smallman Lewis Taylor.

The matter came to police attention after information was provided by the AFL.

The obvious suggestion is that he was leaked the information or was provided the results through his position with Fox. Interesting to see where this leads, if anywhere.

Would rather our police get back to the real stuff. Are any punters feeling ripped off? What about the sports betting companies, are they crying poor?

If you're going to investigate David King then investigate him for running a ridiculous 'war room' segment, collecting bogus and irrelevant stats and wearing terrible ill-fitting suits on TV.

Too bad he couldn't get insider knowledge to help him with his Grandfinal prediction;)
Go easy on him. He was only 133 points out. This is what happens when you base all your opinion on champion data stats. King is so in love with them he dosent even really need to bother watching the games.

Considering it wasn't that much of an upset that Taylor won the Rising Star, you'd hope they have some significant evidence against him.

Highly illiquid market though - means a) it's easier to trace flows and connect them to events outside the market (i.e the date/time the winner was known internally) and b) it takes relatively fewer resources to investigate and pursue.

I would think that Fox Sports / AFL have some sort of morality clause in their agreements. If they do, he's probably just lost his job.

It would be more suspicious if an underdog like Bontempelli won it and he had put a large sum of money down.
Bontempelli was around $1.30 to win it, so he did back the underdog.

Taylor was the second favourite and he had been talking him up for a couple of months and also the other thing in his favour is that when people have inside information and try to cheat they have others place the bet which he didn't.

Still the police have to look at it due to large sums being won on a non favourite by someone involved in the industry.

No this is what happens when you spend more time with your nose stuck to night club toilet seats! The guy is a reptile
