Fraser, the former AFL player and umpire, had held the important role in the tribunal system since 2010.

He has been the public face of the panel and its weekly findings during the season.

The MRP has come under regular criticism for its findings.

The AFL late last month announced widespread changes to how the panel and tribunal operate.

"Fraser ... told (AFL football operations manager Mark) Evans now was best time for him to move out of chairman's role, following recent changes for 2015 season," the league said on Twitter."
