Plibersek - Opposition arse clown

Whenever I see Tanya Plibersek on TV she looks so sad and I want to tell her to get out of politics and be a home mum for a few years. Heard Lisa Wilkinson recently say that at the peak of her career in magazine publishing she realised that it was time to have a break and do the “home” thing. Tanya should talk to Lisa.
Absolutely. Women should be seen and not heard. Get back in the kitchen.

See, this is where stuff doesn't add up for me.

Say, for example, we had an epidemic of a new contagion in SE Asia, that required a similar global response from capable nations.

It stands to reason that Australia would be the destination point for any potential, high level emergency evacuation procedures needed for foreign personnel working in the area.

This is far from an unrealistic scenario.

Something stinks, and it seems very much like paranoia from an ill-informed government for mine.

As I understand it, we are to be the leader in the event of a case in the region - indeed, there is a team designated for that purpose.

If any of them became infected, I don't think there is any doubt that they would be transported back to Australia.

The logistics of transporting a patient within the region are a lot simpler than bringing them over from West Africa, given the specialised equipment which would be used.

The issue, as I understand it, is not that the government is unwilling to send people over, or to treat patients in Australia, but rather that it is impractical and dangerous to transport them from West Africa to here.

We're at crossed purposes a bit.

I am referring to potentially infected doctors/nurses from Europe/USA/Canada etc in the SE Asian scenario...not patients, as they would be treated in situ.

It would make zero sense to try and transport them home, just as it makes zero sense to transport Australian medical staff back from West Africa in the current situation.

It just makes no sense for us to be facing intransigence from European governments in this case, when the possibility of them requiring identical assistance from us in the future is very real and present.

Again, it doesn't smell right at all to me.

Jiska this thing is a cipher,a sublime dill. Its posts echo infinitely in the drongo-chamber.
Then it responds to itself;sort of smartarse-agumentative-superior-schizo-twit,pats itself on the back after chewing pineapple with its rectum.
I understand as moderator you moderate, but blimey-crikey-matey the dog's dead in the head.

You can tell a politician has ambitions on the leadership when they abandon their principles.

I can think of a rogue state which consistently ignores UN resolutions, whose ruler is a war criminal responsible for the massacres of civilians in refugee camps outside its borders. The US supports and funds this country. This year it gave it a blank cheque to continue its repression of its enemies. It uses US military hardware to bulldoze homes and kill civilians. It is called Israel, and the war criminal is Ariel Sharon. Needless to say, the US does not mention the UN resolutions that Israel has ignored for 30 years; it just continues sending the money.

A political highlight was my visit to the Knesset, and the interesting and influential people I was able to talk with there.

The idea of this forum is to discuss all sorts of footy & non footy Topics. So As long as people dont get too personal or nasty pasty with each other, ie play the ball, not the man:p, then its a really good forum. The Mods do a very hard job, & do it well, even if I dont agree at times!! Having good debate, discussion, grizzle, rant is a good way to enjoy a good discussion, or let off a bit of steam. We cant all get on talk back radio.

The vast majority of posters on here are good IMO. ( Even the ones who are wrong:p) We all do get a bit heated up at times, but a bit of passion is a good thing IMO. I think we should just remember to not get too rude to each other.

I think a bit of argy bargy is fine, add a bit of humor or sarcasm helps too. Thats the Australian way I recon. A bit of spice in discussion is a good thing. But dont just stir the pot for no good reason. It just makes it another sour forum.

So lets keep it interesting. All IM(humble)O:D

Jiska it wasn't a general comment about women. I happen to lie awake at night worrying about Tanya's mental state poor woman. Seems to have a massive chip on her shoulder and I wonder if its not just stress manifesting? She should do something that makes her happy, something that isn't way beyond her capabilies.

Still think Pilbersek is an arseclown for her position on Ebola?

As I write this, we now have a doctor who served in Africa now back in New York, suffering from it.

The sooner they get the facilities up & running to monitor & treat health care workers in West Africa, the better & less chance of this sort of thing becoming more common.
I know I repeat myself but Ignoring it & 'sealing' the borders is plain selfish, short sighted & stupid.

1) Scott Morrison should be given an extension to his portfolio by implementing measures to contain the Ebola virus. His advice on TV today was very sound, saying that all incomers from Africa should be isolated and quarantined, which sounds good to me. Do you realise how devastating it would be if Australia was hit with an Ebola epidemic? It just needs one or two undiagnosed people with Ebola infecting those around them with the disease, to make its spread inevitable. Historically the outbreak of viral diseases have been traced back to one event, such as an infected ship’s arrival or one ill person, precipitating plagues that resulted in thousands of deaths.

2) Was offered a lucrative job in Guinea earlier this year (based out of London). I agonised over the offer for perhaps 1 second before refusing, there isn't a dollar amount printed that would get me there (and this was pre-Ebola)
So you don't know anything about Ebola. Thanks for confirming.

It is sad that people like you think you can tell extremely successful women that they'd be better off at home.

And do you have a link for the following claim? You wouldn't think Ray Hadley or Alan Jones would be quiet about such a thing, but the only person I can find saying it, um, appears to say it in a very similar way to you... Your quote here, 2nd quote from the comments section of Andrew Bolt's blog:
Classic was her was telling pensioners in NSW, that they should support the then ALP's governments Carbon Tax, because if they didnt their homes would be flooded from rising sea levels. Those pensioners were actually living about 200km from the coast and when Ray Hadley called her on it, or maybe it was Alan Jones, she denied she was doing it and that it was nothing but a smear campaign by right wing radio shock jocks. That is ofcourse until the transcript from the public forum was pulled out, it was at that point Plibersek went totally silent and hung up the phone.

Having said all that. Jiska, I hope you're joking with this:
This thread has turned to absolute crap. I'm just going to hand out thread bans as opposed to locking the thread.

This ebola scare must be very annoying for Peter Dutton, what with him being forced to actually address his portfolio.
Maybe it was all the odd talk of Morrison taking control of it that made him pull his finger out (or made Abbott make him pull his finger out so people would stop saying Morrison should be PM).

I tend to think it was when he realised Ebola was a disease and not a country in Africa.

Haha get over yourself lads-how many times have you referred to the continent with many countries on it as Africa. I have tons of times-we grew up calling it that and sometime s harmless slip of the tongue is simple as that.
If you r cereal in thinking that means she is dumb, then I suspect it says more about your intolerances, than her.
Why don't you go chase Bisho up for being out of step with the entire rest of the world re Ebola-now that is dumb!

*Whoosh*.

I suggest you direct any complaints about bias and intolerance on these issues to 'Gough', not me. He's the one who didn't see the banana skin, and then tripped up on it spectacularly.

Very cryptic. Please elaborate.
Plibersek is so busy running the Labor line that she doesn't even realise that she is ******* up. It was the same with Shorten a couple of years ago when Julia said something and Shorten didn't know what is was and he said something like "I haven't seen what the PM said but I agree with what she said". Bahaha:rolleyes:

Haha I sort of accept bias and intolerance to a degree -that's BF. We are all just as bad I presume..
If you take the politics out of this then you have a Labour DP making quite reasonable comments that are in step with the 'best current advice ' on this issue-worldwide. Or you can look at the behaviour of the libs that is out of favour with all relevant bodies. So it amazes me how some think Plib can be in the wrong here.
Don't know what you are referring to re Gough sorry.

Can you provide examples during this ebola epidemic, other than the Africa thing( nothing at all) when she has actually '******' up ' please?
Anyone can have slip of tongue-Tone had another good one today when he was talking to the PM -Shorten.

You're amused by her referring to Africa as a country? On the scale of *-ups measured from 1 to Tony Abbott that's about a 1.
