The WA games are shown in 7mate not the main channel 7 for some reason, that has had an effect on the ratingsThe regional figures are missing so much data I don't think any conclusions can be drawn from them. The All Games Foxtel figure is not as bad as it looks because in 2013 there were all those shorter triple header preseason matches that inflated their aggregate a lot.
The AFL has tried a few things to increase the ratings (including Sunday night matches and starting the season two weeks early which gives better timeslots such as more Friday night games and fewer overlaps between games) and yet the overall figure is down.
Of the cities, Perth is the biggest concern especially with Freo having just made a GF and WC winning their first three games. The 7/7 Mate mishmash is seemingly confusing and alienating viewers

I'm afraid your 100% right as regards the next TV deal. Not really much good news there except Adelaide and regionals.
The drop off in Fox would be a concern for both Foxtel and the AFL. Fox won't be paying more money for the next AFL rights if their subscription numbers are going backwards.

Your hoping on points 2 and 3. Only time will tell who is right. Why what a surprise.
1. We have half a season to go.
2. 3.5 million is nothing over 10 rounds
3. No idea what the next negotiation includes.
4. Im afraid your 100% guessing.

Can we talk about the absolutely astounding State of Origin ratings? Most watched TV broadcast in Australian history.
Origin I - 4.058 million
Origin II - 4.193 million
Now number 1 & 2 on the all time ratings list, dislodging the long-reigning 2005 Australian Open Men's Final between Lleyton Hewitt and Marat Safin.
Massive ratings. That's how you add a chunk of change to your broadcast rights.
AFl v NRL thread.
Most watched SoO maybe. Most watched TV broadcast in Australian history? Nope. Can we talk about the absolutely astounding State of Origin ratings? Most watched TV broadcast in Australian history.
To the detriment of the premiership season, yes.Origin I - 4.058 million
Origin II - 4.193 million

They may need the footy but if it not generating the income they want then they won't be paying any extra to the AFL to get it.I'd say Fox need the footy. It's their stupid and out-dated business model that is affecting their subscriptions numbers
The SoO is meant to be around 30% of the total broad cast rights. The was an article about it a month or so ago I'll have to find it. But it's adds a fortunate on to the NRL figuresCan we talk about the absolutely astounding State of Origin ratings? Most watched TV broadcast in Australian history.
