Competition for worst fans in the comp still alive

Not long after we praised West Coast fans for the tremendous respect they showed the Crows in the wake of Phil Walsh's death, they have reverted to type in the win over the Swans, booing future Hall of Famer Adam Goodes. Of course, booing Adam Goodes has been a constant this season at most grounds, but fans at Subiaco were definitely among the worst and Lewis Jetta's response was more than justified.
Eagles fans don't have a lock on being the worst fans in the league, however, after the Essendon fans disgraced themselves on Saturday night. Bombers fans' willingness to boo their own players has always had them on the nose, but their treatment of former player Paddy Ryder on Saturday night was truly horrendous. Ryder was a wonderful servant of the club and only left after he and his wife were terrified that he could have been injected with a substance that was potentially harmful to his child.
This wasn't simply a case of a player turning his back on a club for the offer of more money – this was a player, like so many of those caught up in the supplements scandal, who was used as a pharmacological guinea pig by the club without it being able to tell him what substances he was injected with. He was let down by Essendon, and rightly chose to get away from the place. Perhaps it is the fact that Ryder's exit highlights the hypocrisy of the other players at the club that are happy to play the victim card, yet stick with the club that wronged them, which so offends Essendon fans.
