The AFL should've been more careful when doubling a league players salary and dropping him on the Gold Coast. Izzy Folau and GWS were a much better fit! Of course they were both a tremendous waste of time and money.

Agreed on that one!!!! Especially the waste of time and money when the funds could have been spent on local development. If I recall correctly, Izzy Folau was a JW.

Gold Coast lifestyle is like the Russian Winter....it's no military secret....

Yes, this is an Expansion Policy Criticism, not a poke specifically at the Suns. They are doing the best they can in a very difficult environment.

It's a clear example of the AFL thinking they can do best simply because they have dollars and perceive themselves to be the biggest - AND ACT ACCORDINGLY.

Well that's odd, most of the religious people i know actually like a drink or 2 or 3.

it is quite possible that sitting through latin masses etc etc drives people to drink.

The Suns will be fine, IMO they would have been better off with McKenna though.

There is always cliques at footy clubs, there are always blokes who like to live it up and blokes who are quiet and like staying at home, there are blokes who may be tempted to cheat with someones elses missus and players girlfriends who may be tempted as well, there are dickheads and nice blokes, god forbid there are blokes who may be practicing Christians and other blokes who haven't been to confession for ...ever !!.

There are educated blokes from private schools and blue collar players who left school in year 10 etc etc etc

It's a football club FFS

What a bunch of wank this is.

You wouldn't want to look to closely at all the other clubs. More than a few would have similar issues in the offseason.

Surely people don't think this doesn't happen at their own club? This would be commonplace across the competition in the offseason...particularly Mad Monday's through to B&F's.

yep, like i guess the media and others actually expect them to be non human, perhaps all volunteer to rid the African continent of the Tsetse fly in the off season

Both the AFL and NRL have players who run in to trouble.

The difference between the codes is that the majority of the best AFL players are clean skins. There's probably only a few (Franklin, Swan, Dustin Martin) who are truly elite AA quality who have had issues and often it's more rumours than proven.

If you compare that to state of origin where at least half of each team have had serious run ins with the law and you see the difference.

The AFL should've been more careful when doubling a league players salary and dropping him on the Gold Coast. Izzy Folau and GWS were a much better fit! Of course they were both a tremendous waste of time and money.

I'm not aware of any of those three being found guilty of any issues. Lots of innuendo and rumours...nothing more. All rumours...not often.

If I was to also count the Origin leaguies who have had run ins with the law, I hazard to guess would be nowhere near half. Big difference between the two codes is that the leaguies don't hind behind a three strikes policy. And the players association is nowhere near as strong as their counterparts in the AFL where a lot gets swept under the carpet.

Has everyone had their memory erased or something? Does everyone seriously forget that at this stage of 2014, everybody was speculating that Gold Coast's premiership era could start as soon as this year? Why does everyone seem to forget this when they talk about how perfectly GWS has managed its list and how much of a debacle Gold Coast's is?

Gold Coast is struggling because it has a horrific injury list. End of story.

Do they hide behind the 2 strikes policy then ?.

The two queensland teams (and now us) have a horific injury toll. If the Suns and Lions and us had all our players there would be a different thread,
One of fear and loathing about the northern clubs.

Agreed, if the Northern clubs were doing OK, it would go something like this in the media ........... the unity of the players and clubs are something to behold and Melbourne clubs are nervous, Eddie is upset and on the warpath blah blah blah

You've got 8 out....That's not horrific, indeed it's probably about average.

GC has 11, but 6 of those are listed as 'test'

Brisbane has 14...I'll concede that's high, but it's hardly unique.

All clubs have cliques, not all clubs appear to coming apart at the seams because of their cliques.

The OP's link states ....

That half are at the pub and half are at church.

That sounds believable doesn't it ?

If you have ever played in a footy team you will know that some blokes like a drink, some don't, some may even go to church others avoid it like the plague, and it is still possible to win some footy games perhaps even a premiership.

Believe what you wan't.

would be interested to know if religious avoidance of treatment methods has spread through the team too - if that indeed is true of gary ablett.

That actually may be a possibility and IMO fair enough.

this "bought cocaine outside of a pizza shop at 7:45am" line, that footy classified just trotted out, is a little misleading.... and not in the negative way you'd expect, this probably spares the club even more embarrassment.

it really is a laughable, and dangerous situation

There would be more problems if there were no cliques.

This article and all subsequent posts are click bait.

A group of over 40 work colleagues has people who hang around in different groups.

How is that a problem?

Because they're losing, of course. Having groups of players that choose to spend their free time in very different ways is seen as a healthy thing when a club is going well. In fact, on a slow news week, it would probably be nominated as being a key reason why a team is doing well.

But Gold Coast aren't winning, which is why it's an issue. Maybe it's a beat-up, maybe it's more than that. There can be healthy cliques and unhealthy cliques.

Love to see your team win many games with as many injuries as they have had. Good luck winning with no Priddis, Kennedy, Brown, McGovern etc

Heck if they had a clean bill of health like us lately they would be even more dominant then last year and this would all be a non issue.
