THE SYDNEY Swans’ preparations for the 2008 season have hit a snag with ruckman Peter Everitt in serious doubt for the club's season opener against St Kilda because of a knee injury.


The Swans start the season proper against the Saints on March 22 at Telstra Dome and Everitt has been listed as being out for up to six weeks with a knee complaint before the opening match against his old club.


The 33-year-old played every match in his first season for the Swans last year, coming sixth in the best and fairest count, as the club finished seventh following back-to-back grand final appearances.

The Swans will field an inexperienced line-up for their NAB Cup match against Hawthorn in Launceston on Sunday.

according to an article today he won't play any NAB cup due to knee soreness.

Good article on Daniel Currie on Swans website, however at the end of article suggests that he has a groin problem and will not be available for the start of the season

If the bookies gave and over/under on Spida's appearances this season, I'd be taking the Under on anything at 12.5 or higher.

Guys his age with bad knees. GAWWWWN.

He's been behind the 8 ball ever since he got injured prior to xmas. At his age, he is almost certain to miss Round 1. If Currie can show something during the pre season, I would be more than happy for him to be the relieving ruckman behind Jolly until Spider gets back.

Geeze, we certainly have some injuries to start the season. Fozzie a definite no show, Spida and Playfair not looking promising and now Currie with a groin problem. Lets hope we're getting it out of the way early and that it's not a sign of things to come.

Already corrected it. I got confused with a cricketer with the same last name. With all these injuries hopefully Roos takes the opportunity to blood some new players.

The Victoria spinner that doesn't spin the ball at all?
Personally, I don't want White anywhere near the ruck - see what it did to LRT (and Goodes). With such a few number of young KP prospects we've got, White needs to be nurtured properly and as a KPP, not as a stop gap ruckman.

I would much rather throw Playfair in the ruck, Currie and even Ted Richards before White.
Didn't read the parts about Currie getting an injury.

Its just a pre-season, throw Orreal into the mix - that this is the exact reason why we should have kept Rowe over O'Dwyer.
And I still don't want LRT anywhere near the ruck again.

Come on. The Swans didnt look normal for most of the season without Gumby running around the field

I love LRT - (hmmm, well, not literally ).
He was beating or holding his own against quality opposition through out 2005 and the first half in 2006 - until his stint in the ruck which ruined his ankle (ankle, I think) and ruined the rest of 2006 and 2007.

With him taking on the biggest (and usually best) tall, it allowed CB to take on a third-tall type or even a medium and allows him to orchestrate most of our rebounds (There are usually two options for LRT when he has the ball, hand-ball to Kennelly or hand-ball to CB). CB was not necessarily the one that runs with the ball, but he initiates it - and that's something that we lost when CB was used as the CHB. Leo Barry maybe a good 'runner' when his body is fine, but he was nowhere as good as a decision-maker, organiser (both defence and attack) as CB.

So it still buggers me that he's still holding onto the captaincy role when he knows (and Hall does also - and did something about it) that there's a better candidate in the backline.

Heard Roos on SEN this morning mentioned that he was expecting Spida to play round one. Said that the expected time required to recover was a maximum estimate, and also mentioned that he was recovering well and on track to start the season. The only thing he was sort of concerned about was his match fitness and conditioning..
So i guess thats better news..
