To see Carlton V Saints, apart from the joy of just watching ur team do we have ne chance of winning? I went to the game against Richmond and was dissapointed, not just with the loss, but i hate following a team where the players dont play like there lives depend on a win.

Anyone go to Carlton vs Brisbane last yr?

Looked forward all year and felt physically ill during and after. One of the most horrible things I've ever seen. Didnt speak after for a while.

Nothing can be worse then that.

but yes regarding the Saint's game I'm not confident

I beg to differ.

I didn't feel sick, nor ill. I wish I had, but alas I didn't. You see, I just didn't care.

Every time Carlton played I have had some sort of optimism or atleast wanted to know the scores, but last season about halfway through is the first time ever I have lost interest in Carlton. I was sick of the same old shit. Massive losses, players not trying, board leaks, coaching disasters. I had just about enough.

This season is hopefully gonna be different.

What a sad ****ing post. Couldn't have put it better myself. Hope? I'm struggling.............

Yes, there is a point of going: to support your team. Win, lose or draw.

All the more power to you if you wish to sit this one out and watch it on the box instead, but I'll be going to this one. Even if I think we're not going to win. And as thylacine pointed out, MOTY or GOTY could happen - hell, we could even cause an upset and beat the Saints. Or Fev could break Fred Fanning's record (ok, going a little too far here).

it's your job as a supporter to cheer for the guys - no matter how it goes.

i'm going to every match i can.

p.s. i actually dont think we'll go as bad as everyone thinks.

I'd expect that sort of comment from El Presidente. :D

I'll be going to the match (helps that my bro is Saints supporter). Still, I'll be going with a (blind?) hope that we can win - as I have for every game we play (well, that hope was more dread than anything round 22 last season, but whatever  ). We've played horribly against the Saints in recent years, but we've got to break that streak sometime. Stupid logic I know, but it's only round 2 and I'm not giving up hope just yet.

Im about 300kms north so I don't often get to games, and far be it from me to tell you if you should go or not.

But...in my time following Carlton I have been fortunate enough to live through 4 Premierships (alright...only two I can remember), a couple of gut wrenching GF losses, and plenty of finals campaigns.

My point is that despite the current state of play, the Carlton Football Club has given me plenty to enjoy over the years, far more than your average Geelong, Bulldogs, Melbourne, Richmond, Collingwood, Sydney and St Kilda supporter. Supporting a club is a two way street.

So to anyone thinking of jumping off the bandwagon, good riddance, the club doesn't need you. Im sure Richmond will welcome you with open arms.

We ran outta legs last week, and as much as i hate to say it, we'll prob run out again. But was i the only one who watched the second qtr against the tiges? So much promise, we havent moved the ball so well in six years.

I think the first four rounds will be full of mixed highs and lows. but once we get some match fitness into Judd, Stevo, Hadley and Fisher, plus a handful more games for Hampson our engine room should work well all day!!

This whole year will be up and down, get on and go to every game you can, while you might not see a win every game you'll see some good young kids develop:thumbsu:

oh and few more reason to go watch: Juddy, Stevo, Simmo, Murphs, Gibbsy, Fish (if he's back), Fev (if he's on, its a reason alone), Eddie, Jamo, T-bird, Waite, Kreuzer (it may be his first game), carrots, hoops, Carlos, Action Jackson (played well on harvey last year), Scotland, the hampster (if he's back) and any other player pulling on the navy blue jumper. if that list aint enought to get you along to the game nothing is. my first game i will see live this year will be against adelaide in a couple of weeks. get along people. be passionate and cheer on the boys in blue.

Get some balls you weak &#$%. Of course you should go, try not being a fair weather supporter. Its easy to be a front runner and support your team when its going along swimmingly, a true supporter follows under any circumstance.

Two games that I went to and I didn't think we were going to win were the 1982 GF and the 1999 Prelim - what a f**ken buzz when we won both games.

Get along and support the baggers.

It's the same old same old.
You study the form guide, you build the pseudo confidence.
Then within the first 10 mins you see it all sliding away.
Then it's the comeback fantasy....
'We can haul it back!'.... it lasts for 5 mins before you start looking
to the following week.
On the rare occasion the miracle arrives.....

There's seems to be no legitimate reason why the saints won't
tear us to pieces. But as supporters it's a time when the club totally
needs the back up, so you have no choice but remain as positive
as possible, and to attend when and where you can.

I guess it's a little more doom and gloom for us interstate supporters.
Particularly when you've got to sit amongst 40000 chardonnay sipping
crows fans or 30000 toothless power ferals.
Either way, i always go and support not matter what.

Oh I went to that game It was terrible. Up here I usually only get to go to one game a year and that was it last year.

Maybe if the supporters followed Carlton 'like their lives depend on a win' then the team may respond?

Me thinks -- works both ways~

Yes I did. Bloody disappointing, let me tell you.
Of course there is a reason to go on Saturday night - to watch the mighty Carlton Footy Club in action. Sure, we might not win, but hopefully we don't see a second half fade out like we did against Richmond.

Carlton vs Brisbane happened in round 5 at the Tesltra Dome and was one of the most electifying entertaining games I have seen Carlton play (even though we lost by 12).

Surely you refer to the Brisbane vs Carlton game?

While I agree that St Kilda have definitely had the wood over us in recent times, and after their off-season list changes are a much stronger team than they have been, it must also be noted that Carlton (in recent times) has not been able to perform as favourites (as rarely as that has happened!).

I think going into the game as underdogs with little expectation, a nothing to lose and everything to gain attitude may just be what Carlton need to find that extra endeavour and determination to play out the game. Even if we don't get the four points it will still be an opportunity to show us fans that our young list really do have the heart and determination to run out games and that Thursday's result was an aberration and by no means indicative of what will be in store for the rest of '08.
