It just seems to me this year that Bryce has developed a skill that not many other players have, that is creating time with the footy.

I have just seemed to notice that when he is in a pack he can weigh up his options with the footy then give the dish out, a very good skill he has developed at such a young age.

Thoughts?

He seems a lot bigger unit this year as well.

I know it might seem over-crediting him a bit but just watching his game this year his improvement seems the most rapid to me. (Murphy is obviously playing a lot better footy but we knew what that kid was capable of last year had he received any help in the middle)

If you think i'm talking crap just let me know ;) but he just seems so much more calm with the ball in his hands.

I saw the Tiges and Dons games live, and he really does have a great ability to win the contested ball out of the middle.

Maybe I'm seeing it wrong, but I'm a bit confused as to why he's not in there more? While we were getting spanked out of the middle, why wouldn't you give him a go in there?

Just needs to get a bit more of it.

Also needs to develop a yard of pace... looks like he's running up and down on the spot at times.

I really felt we spanked the bombers in the middle on saturday night, I'm not sure what the clearances etc. stats were but we seemed to clear the ball a lot easier and win a lot more hard footy, Essendon were a lot better at rebounding to score though.

But back on topic he was good at the centre stoppages yes.

I was thinking more against the Tiges, when it was one way traffic and NOT our way.

He's always had it. And that's probably his greatest strength.

In under age footy his old man was coach and Bryce got hold of the pill so often that his old man told him he wasn't allowed to kick it but had to hanball to a teammate so some of the other kids got a go.

His 'time' and poise are the reasons he's so highly rated.

I agree it's sometimes a bit surprising that he's not in the middle more but i can only think the coaching panel has a specific development program in place for him and think they should stick to it for the long-term rewards they expect to result, rather than thinking short-term and rushing his development. Just a guess though.

I think he's the player to watch this year - big improver.

Had his best game (possession wise) of his short career vs the Saints, 2 weeks ago.

Was great against Dons and Tigers too - we need more on the team who are that dedicated, determined and skilled.

I get the binoculars out every game and watch him @ the centre bounce ---- maturing into top 3 player at Carlton.

Yeah he has always manufactured time - have always likened him to James Hird - thankyou.

You know who else has all the time he wants when we has the footy............Chris Judd..........give it two years.... 14th this year, touching the 8 in 2009, big call but i think 20 wins in 2010.just my thoughts.

I've watched him closely this year and from an outsiders point of view he has looked excellent in close dishing out the ball. A few instances against the bombers he got the handball out to a running player with clean disposal, and just seemed like a waste having him on Jobe Watson who was playing out of the goal square during parts of the game.

Worthy of more on-ball game time IMO and will be a gun. :thumbsu:

Yeah I think he reads it well off the ruckmans hands and is good in traffic.
He will be part of the rotation through the centre square
Would like to see him in a more offensive role instead of minding an opponent, and would like to see him spend some time forward

No he doesn't, only carlton supporters would agree with you there.

But he does have more potential.

Please yourself :)

He already has equal to or more runs on the board in '08 despite being two years younger.

If you were building a side from scratch I know who I'd pick first ;)

On the Collingwood board they are calling him Scahpelle because he is counting the day til he can go home... Im sure he signed a contract extension didnt he...

Well, not really.

Thomas is averaging 15.7 disposals a game, to Gibbs' 19.

Thomas is averaging 2 goals, to Gibbs' 0.3.

Thomas is averaging 2.3 tackles, to Gibbs' 1.3.

The marks are pretty close.

Considering Gibbs has had a bit of time in the midfield, and Thomas hasn't started in the square once (much to my disgust), I don't see how you can possibly say "Gibbs has more runs on the board".

In fairness to you, Pendlebury is lagging behind on a mere 16 disposal average, which is poor for a midfielder. However, we all acknowledge how poor he has been so far... and is FAR from his best. So, Gibbs is only averaging 3 touches more than this Pendlebury (as well as more marks, but less tackles) - who is really struggling to find form.

Don't know what it is with this board and their obsession with our players. Gibbs will be a gun. So will ours.

I did say equal to or more than.....comprehension son !!!

I agree, all three are great players.
