I think in time he'll be alright but at this point it probably wouldnt hurt to much for him to focus on playing the best he can in the SANFL rather than working on the Crows game plan etc. Maybe it wouldnt be a bad idea for James to do an extra session with the Tigers.

yeah but in fairness to Sellar - he is still 2 years younger than Tippet

19-21 is a big difference in Football.

Yeah but most of the time it's because they are undersized for their positions. It worries me, because (whilst his strength probably isn't quite there) he has the body size already.

Ah no, hes closer to 20 than 18.

Ah no, according to the Crows website he turned 19 on the 24th of March 2008.

That would mean he was 18 less than 2 months ago, and he won't be 20 for another 10 months+

Hentschell was another (besides Bock) who was widely touted on this forum as not being up to it....

Griff spent his first 2 years on the list playing 2's at Centrals. Rutten played 2 games in his first 2 years on the list.

Some of those guys actually turned out ok. He was very bottom aged when drafted and was in no shape for his first pre-season. Give the kid a break.

He will be a player.:thumbsu:

I still remember when people were screaming out for Bock to be delisted on the back of his SANFL form :)

Im not saying that Sellar wont become a good player, i just think maybe the crows are going about things the wrong way.
He's obviously no where near good enough for AFL or SANFL yet.
Lets try and get some confidence into him by allowing him to learn how to be a very good player. The best way to do this is to start him in defence.
Start him at CHB for Glenelg Reserves, then only play him for the Senior Glenelg if he stats to really dominate. Then when he starts to dominate at CHB for the seniors at Glenelg, stick him up forward for them or if needed CHB for the Crows.
I just dont like the way he is developing at the moment, dont think his developing at all getting 5-6 touches at full forward with Glenelg Seniors when they have another 3-4 good talls around him.

Cmon Faith, you are using way too much commonsense now and I can almost guarantee what you are suggesting will eventuate.. Stick to the party lines though

a) KPP take longer to develop
b) tippett is older
c)Bock was also crap
d)he is doing all the defensive things asked of him
e)he isnt getting a chance at the bay as the 3rd forward
f)remember that time in Dubai?

Please prove me wrong James. 6 or more marks and 10 possessions would make my day (in the same game)

Jesus, 18 as in 18 years not 18 years and 11 months.

Therefore, he is obviously closer to 20 than 18.

You are having a loan surely?

Using your logic, come October he will be closer to 20 than he is 19, yet he'll still be 19 years old.

You can't be serious???

The lad has just turned 19. He was an 18yo about 8 weeks ago. Of course he's closer to 18 than 20.

Lets stop this otherwise interstaters will be taking the piss out of our intelligence. For me, 18 is 18 on the dot. 20 is 20 on the dot. So if you are 19 and 1 day you are closer to 20 than 18. Simple isnt it?

I find it amusing how people always cite moving a forward to CHB as a way of teaching them to be a good forward.

Most of the players we've done this for have ended up being far better defenders than forwards, hahaha. Stevens, Rutten, Bock, McGregor.

Still, I'm not going to be complaining if Sellar turns into the next Rutten, haha.

Thats true but none of these guys had enough talent to play forward at a high level.
If we persisted with them as forwards they would have been delisted by now.
However look at Hentschell, started in defence and moved forward and performed well.
At the end of the day if the guy has talent to be a super forward, starting as a defender can't hurt them.

Are you serious? Of course he's referring to the time they turned an age, rather than the day they were last that age. That's pretty much standard everywhere.

Of course nobody bothered to compare how close you are to your actual age because it's pointless.

Rutten kicked three goals in his first game and played as an under 18 captain in the forward line. I'd say he had a fair bit of talent... but I do take your point. I wouldn't mind him being a defender for a while either, even if just to get him some possessions and get his confidence up.

Should we re-draft Fergus and Chad Gibson? They will be cherry ripe by year 2010?

That's silly logic dingus.

Did you see much of J-Sell's junior footy pre ailments? Scary talent. The only concern I have is that he's a tweener and won't make it as a forward.

He'll definitely make it as a FOOTBALLER, just which position isn't set in stone yet. I have faith he'll make it as a forward.

Some people dribble a whole lot of shit over a bloke that hasn't even turned 20 yet.

O noes get out uR br00ms and declare shenaniganss!!!!!11

Uh

a) KPP do take longer to develop you idiot. Aside from the freaks of the game (Careys, Franklins et al) most KP players struggle in their first couple of seasons at any AFL club at pretty much any level. So many people rate Mitch Clarke, Thorp, Dowler, Cleve Hughes, Mitch Brown as star KP's of the future and how much more established than James are they at this point of their careers?

b) Tippett is older? and more physically mature - wow bigger and stronger playing against grown men. 0 advantage there

c) Yet you stuck with him through thick and thin I'm sure...

d) Hardly relevant. Most people acknowledge he's struggling atm.

e) Also been acknowledged that the Bay probably isn't the best location for a guy like Sellar trying to ply his craft.

f) Yep. At a better than SANFL level too- even if it was the nothing cup.

Seriously, the bloke couldn't run the length of a footy field at the start of last pre-season. Close thread and re-open in 3 years.
