some players have gone backwards

Just thinking and dont think its about potting knights but lets be honest a few players have gone backwards this year RYDER,WINDERLICH,JETTA,LOVETT,NASH,MCPHEE,and a there is probaly a few more including SLATTERY (who is not up to afl standard he has played one good game in 3 years kerr last year)LAYCOCK probaly as well whats your opinions
 
With the exception of Ryder, can't see many on here disagreeing. Ryder was damn good, and is learning the trade of being a ruckman. Gradual improvement from him. I actually have been impressed with Lovett, however I do not mind him being put up for trade as frankly I can't see him becoming anything more than a inconsistent flashy midfielder
 
Laycock has always been lazy. I dont think they have gone backwards though, i think they are severely lacking confidence.

Lovett, i think should take a look at Leon Davis and how he has gone about his game, a few years ago he was very similar to where Lovett is now, Leon has improved his game alot and has become quite consistent as a forward / midfielder.

Maybe his not getting the right message?
 
Davis always was doing freaky things back then and he was trying all of the time. Lovett to me falls asleep for most of the games which is MOST disappointing. I can cope with people missing targets, I hate seeing players look like they don't care- Lovett and Laycock take note. I don't like Slattery much but at least he puts the body on the line all the time and genuinely cares and wants to make up for his mistakes.

Ryder - played his best footy ever early this year. Struggled since being moved around.
Winderlich - struggled but he doesn't look right - injured.
Jetta - played his best games ever at the start of the year. Injured and not playing well.
Lovett - Played some of his best football this year. Outside player so will be relatively inconsistent.
Nash - was never good to begin with.
McPhee - was playing well in a new role.

Ryder, Jetta have shown improvement.

Lovett, McPhee about the same.

Nash no good.

Winderlich injured this year = Winderlich end of last year.

Watch the North game and look at how many times he was involved in our goals.

He was starting to get a lot of ball against the Blues before doing his hammy. He was the one that shot out the handball past Judd in traffic for Lovett's goal.

I agree, Jetta will get better over this year and beyond.
 
Yes, but what about the other games. Don't play the injury card. He has been poor in every other match he played. As I said picking a small crumbing forward at pick 18 in a strong draft was a really silly decsion especially when there were guns that followed.

I don't think he's considered as just a small crumbing forward.

He played a bit of midfield in the champs from what I saw and is considered likely to play midfield once he gets the body and engine up.

He's only played 10 games in his career. He's currently averaging 4 tackles a game.... might be our best.

People expect too much from these kids. He currently has no protection and when we are getting pumped it's kids like him that are going to look worse because his body won't allow him to have an influence.

The two i have worried about this year in regards to going backwards have been
1) Stanton - was supposed to move into A grade midfielders.
2) Monfries - was supposed to cement his spot in the 22 and become one of our better players.
Both were better players two years ago.

i like lovett dont get me wrong. but we arnt in the same sitution as collingwood back then. we cant keep carrying someone who is really struggling. collingwood were playin finals and grand finals back then.

Stanton does get a heavy tag every week, though.
 
We would have to be the worst team in the competition in developing young players and not that much better in drafting either.
 
people! PEOPLE!

stress less, i can recall other dons supporters saying the same thing about us in the late nineties. give it time and let the younger fellas eat more, do weights, run more, get fitter and learn a bit from the game. 2-3 years of that and you'll be thinking differently yes?

Lazycock, lovett and winderlich have been frustrating me most. Last year lazycock and lick both showed so much potential and really looked like this year was theirs. as for lovett, well, he's either brilliant or motionless.

these players aren't the problem

we lack a superstar.
i'm talking about Franklin, Pavlich, Ablett, Riewoldt, Judd, Kerr, Goodes, C.Cornes, Cox, etc.
someone you can build a team around.
Winderlich, Jetta, Lovett, Nash, Slattery are peripheral players who are young & good enough to stick around. they would surely be playing better footy in a winning team like Geelong.
McPhee hasn't quite taken that next step into the elite bracket. (i was hoping for a Chad Cornes)
Ryder is an obvious star of the future. i think he can be an AA ruckman one day.
 
Stats wise McPhee and Stanton are the ones who have really gone backwards. McPhee is averaging almost 7 possies less than last year (although he is playing a different role. Stanton is down by 4.
Nash and Monfries are both up on previous seasons although both have had woeful disposal this year. Last year I remember Nash being spot on with his passing and I think Monfries has been better in time gone by as well.
Laycock is about the same which means that any expectations were based on hope more than reality.
