2 years ago vs Tiges also.. It was Paul Williams' 300th and we were 1 goal shy of 200 but i think we eventually thrashed them by 118.

Seems unlikely we'll get near but we did beat them by 40+ pts... but you never what you're gonna get with the Swans..

I don't really truck with these career records that include pre-season and representative games. But they were played, so I guess that should be recognised. For me it's all about the Premiership games a player plays for his club colours.

That said, it would be nice to think the boys would lift us to a similar scoreline to the one we posted for Willo. Great result that game. When Willo got his goal in that game, I was shocked at how emotional I got.

Ditto. Let's hope he plays on next year injury free so he hits the real 300. Almost no-one who deserves it more, what an absolute champion and stalwart he's been for us.

Yeah def. I said in another thread that I had concerns over him coming into this year that this would be his last. But he's been great thus far, and is looking fitter than he has in years - hope it holds up.

I think MOL would be a certainty to achieve 300 club games. He really hasn't shown any sort of decline that would see him out of our best 22 since 2005. He'd almost be one of our most consistent performers, really. And he's still good for 10 match winning touches a game. Plus he's still only barely turned 31. And I can't see why he won't be able to contribute meaningfully for even 3 more years if his body held out. I think some people keen for him to move on are Magic weary because he has been playing since 1996. But he was barely 19 back then.

Firstly, it signals the loss of a star of the club. Secondly, it starts off the domino reaction of our best players retiring.

I want Mick's 300th to be at the SCG. That way we have more than license to go crazy ;]

EDIT: Oh yeah, its our 1000th win if we win this week. We're on 999 wins and 22 draws with a couple of dozen more losses than wins.

Drafted into the team as a 17yr old and was a regular at a tick over 18yrs old. Impressive effort (and a sign of how badly we needed some fresh talent to get us away from the spoon in those days, I guess).

Anyway.. I think his game's actually lifted ever since Hall's been suspended. He's back to his mercurial best. He's playing with a lot more confidence than '07.

Even at the end of 07 he said he'd be ready to step aside for the new blood to come thru as it was one of his quieter seasons and it seemed the speed of the game had finally caught up to him.. Like he says.. it's amazing what a full preseason can do to one's body..

Was at Optus Oval in 96 when Roos played his 300th against Nth Melbourne. What a game too, belted them by 79 points if i remember rightly. We were almost out by over 100 points at one stage but the Roos kicked the last 3 of the game i think. Stood in the big dust bowl out to the left of the TV screen (stand was under construction) couldn't see anything up the other end, but Roos kicked 2 goals down my end.

I missed that Carlton game too, there was a 4 week period in and around that time i was overseas. When i got back my mate i was straight on the phone to a mate to find out how the Swans had been going, and he told me we had won all 4 games whilst i was gone and that we;d been top of the ladder for a bit! I didn't really believe it either. But that Carlton game must have been something special.

That Carlton game was special. I wish I'd gone down for it. That Carlton team was outstanding. They were the reigning Premiers and had won 35 of their last 39 games before we travelled down to Optus to meet them. Beating them was the best achievement by a Sydney team probably in the whole decade up to that point.

For some of the younger Swans fans on these boards (not that I'm particularly old I hasten to add, I was only 20-ish in 96 ) the first half of 96 was like 2003 under Roos. No pressure, we just went out and played with no expectations for the love of it, and were world beaters. Good times.

And yes, we started hard in the 96 Granny, and could have won a break if plugger had just managed that mark. But the truth was we were walking wounded in that game and no chance. Plugger had his groin. Roosy's body was worn out from all the heavy lifting he'd done to get us that far, Dunkley was limping plus had the disrupted week at the tribunal, Mooney's knee was scraping bone, Kickett was little more than a super sub and had to play only limited game time off the bench, and then minutes into the game Craig O'brien was smashed and took no further part in the game. And our kids (such as MOL) just didn't have the hardness to match the seasoned Shinboners - who ended up being the best team of the 90's BTW.

Oh well, it just made 2005 even sweeter for me.

Definitely. We slowed down almost completely when the rain started coming down, and then stepping it up once it slowed down a little.

MOL will get that nod.. but heaven forbid a total form slump or career ending injury Goodes will end up with that honour. Will be the closest to reaching Stynes' record.
