You know, Davis likes seeing this sort of stuff. He's always allowed it to foster before in the past. Likes adversity in his organization, his players having to fight for a living etc.

In his recent PC, Davis said it was one of their priorities to keep both Lechler and Asomugha. That the likelihood would be re-signing Lechler and franchising Asomugha to exclusive rights.

Maybe he should recruit Setanta O'hAilpin? :)

Spagnuolo looks like he is doing some of the hardest choices a coach would ever have to make, the cut two potential future hall of famers for an extra 14 million cap room.

That bring us to Holt and Pace. The Rams would free up $8 million of cap space by cutting or trading Holt by June 1. They'd save $6 million by cutting or trading Pace by June 1.

So in essence, the Rams would double their cap room — from $14 million to $28 million — by dispatching Pace and Holt. These would not be easy decisions. Pace and Holt have been to seven Pro Bowls a piece. They were mainstays of the Greatest Show on Turf squads. They have conducted themselves in exemplary fashion on and off the field in St. Louis.

As a ram fan it would hurt to see two players that were essential in our glory days get traded due to salary cap concerns. Suppose this is what it is like supporting the NFL.

thevikingage.com reports the following rumours about the Vikings off-season strategies:

Centre Matt Birk and Safety Darren Sharper will not be re-signed.

WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh and CB Nnamdi Asomugha are not being pursued.

WR Antonio Bryant is a possibile signing, but there are concerns about his character.

C Jason Brown is the #1 free agent target, followed by RT Vernon Casey or RT Mark Tauscher and Jordan Gross if the Panthers don’t franchise him.

The team does not believe Ryan Cook or John Sullivan are long-term team solutions

John David Booty is viewed as a back-up quarterback, period. He will never start unless things fall totally apart.

The list of QBs being looked at is large and includes (in no particular order): Derek Anderson, Brett Favre, Matt Cassel, and Jeff Garcia.

I think this is a common mis-nomer Sven. When you look into why AB left Dallas and SF, you can clearly see that it wasn't really his fault. Parcells can be hard work at the best of times while Nolan has admitted that it was his fault that AB isnt still in SF.

Since he has been in TB he hasnt been a problem. Over 1100 yards (after a slow start). I expect he will remain a Buccaneer.

lol got to be one of the worst lists ever :p No offense Sven :D

Anderson - no dice
Favre - Ancient and unlikely
Cassel - I think most arouind here have heard me say 'Brady>System>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Cassel'
Garcia - Solid but getting along, not the QB I would want should the running game fail

Of course all this will be second to the aforementioned RG...

The Rams have to trade Holt and Pace so they can at least get something for them. That is way too much cap space not to get rid of them.

Although that QB list may not be the best, the Vikings only need a solid QB to make them a big threat. The have a good D, great running game and decent enough receivers. Favre, Cassel or Garcia would definately improve that passing game.

They don't HAVE to, they can let them prove themselves. They were good players in the past but just screwed over by Linehan. I think they'll be good this season.

Anyway, probably the riskiest free agent out there

IRVING, Texas -- Troubled cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones was released Monday by the Dallas Cowboys, making him a free agent.
The Cowboys said last month they planned to release Jones, and Monday was the first day teams could make waiver requests.

I'm off to place a $10 bet he'll end up at the Raiders :D

Word out of St. Louis is that the Rams are shopping veteran WR Torry Holt and might be willing to take no more than a third-round pick. Their motivation is to clear cap space and moving Holt would give St. Louis $8M more dollars to work with. Holt is entering the final year of a multi-year contract and is slated to make $6.65M in base salary in 2009.

Who would be interested in picking up Holt?

If he wants out of the Rams when his contract expires, they may as well cut him now anyway. But what teams would be interested in a 32 year old WR on $6+ million?

His production has been falling away, would he be able to keep it up enough to justify that price tag?

I'ld be interested in seeing what he could do at the Giants... 6 mil obviously a lot and don't have too much cap room, but would be interested...

What do you care about the Giants? Thought you were a Steeler? :p

49ers have cut LB/Waste of Cap Space Tully Banta-Cain and FS/Special Teams Standout Keith Lewis.

Pretty well signals the team's intent to upgrade these positions through FA/Draft.

49ers are also indicating an intent to restructure QB Alex Smith's contract to be heavily incentive based otherwise he is likely gone.

RT Jonas Jennings is also likely to be a cap casualty.

These moves reflect the 49ers off season priority of:

1) Better edge rush
2) RT starter
3) Playmaking Free Safety
4) Backup QB
