Where from Slim? There is only so much cattle going around, hows is that going to affect you guys?
I just can't see where these teams are going to recruit from, not a very big area to try and sustain two Benalla teams and three surrounding sides, not to mention us and Glenrowan trying to poach a few as well. I may be wrong though!? Hopefully I am otherwise we as a league are going to really suffer.

Sorry pliz I'm with you now, not only does the town support Benalla Saints and us,Greta ,G/rowan and K/valley also have Benalla people there, Violet Town inthe Kdfl and Dookie in the Picola have some 3rds kids I'm told. As well 3 B&D sides and I think there is at least 1 Benalla bloke playing at B/Doon.

The VCFL in their review haven't solved a thing, just given 4 clubs half a chance and left 1 hanging out to dry. swannie and G/Bat will be throwing money at ordinary players in an effort to be competitive so they can survive in 2010.I reckon the league will have a few headaches if these clubs dont put a plan in place to get them through the next 5 years. Like us they will probably have to accept some huge floggings for the first few years. I cant remember how many 35-40 gl floggings we copped in the first couple of years, I think Milawa gave us a 30 gl one this year. So I hope they can build into good strong clubs over the next couple of years, I reckon G/Bat can.

In total between Swanpool ,G/Bat and Tatong they will need to find at least 30 or more GOOD footballers not average ones to sustain them in the short term.So the drawing area has to widen and bring them from elsewhere and leave someone else in the same predicament.

Just perusing the YMVFL thread, doesn't appear they are all that keen on accepting Bonnie Doon..........Could it be a case of Serenity Stadium here we come.

Im just hoping on behalf of all the current teams in the ovens and king league that by these couple of teams coming in to the league next year there is no forfeits and things happening on a saturday.. In a way its good that there is going to be more teams but then the bad points could be that these teams might struggle to put a team on the park come half way through the season because they are over getting flogged or couldnt be bothered playing uf this does happen it will put a big dent in the operation of this league is there something in place to say its not gunna happen? or is it just a wait and see thing?..

I was having a look also Slim and it sounds to me that if the YMVFL do not want Bonnie Doon to come into the league then they will be coming to us, am I correct in saying that? If so does anyone know why it is that our league has no say in anything that is going to happen, surely if the O&K are unable to have any say in the outcome then neither can the YMVFL.

Exactly what it is....Though I reckon Swannie and G/Bat will be able to field sides all season.

Thats what will happen Pliz, at the end of the day the O&K can refuse them admission but I think they are being good neighbours and will accept them. I think we have to look along the lines that these guys need somewhere to play footy. If you think travelling will be an issue have a look at the Golden Rivers league, Hay have to travel over 100ks to their nearest opponent
and up to 300ks to some others, a fair ask every 2nd week

I understand that the VCFL have a duty of care Slim, and that travelling is not an issue, I am not questioning that. But what I am confussed on is why does the YMVFL get to make the decision on B/Doon joining them shouldn't that be a VCFL decision?

They way i read it is that the vcfl's opinion was that the B & D clubs wouldnt be viable no matter what league they were in , but if they wanted to remain they recommended that Longwood try kdfl , swany , G/bat & TAt try O&K and BD try either O & K or Ymvfl . I dont think they were saying that they would enforce any league to except them or any of these clubs to go to the leagues mentioned .

different state, but hume league clubs have in the past voted 10-0 against new clubs entering their league only to have it overridden by authorities and allowing them in. seems clubs opinions don't count for much in these situations

I'd assume that if a vote was taken by O&K clubs the result would be similar. I'm against the idea personally - not so much the travel issue, but if you have a look at the league it is as competitive as ever, we nearly have all clubs with thirds and those that don't are working hard (from what I hear) on getting sides up. There is also a majority of clubs that have a 4th netball side. I beleive the O&K League do not want this to happen, but have had their hand forced by the VCFL.

G/bat and swanpool struggle to put sides on the park against bonnie doon wonder if the coach will even bother showing up to tarra ;););)

I think the o&k see it as the "right thing to do" which it probably is , but i reckon they would be happy to just have to take on Gbat & Swannie without the potential headache of Tatong who are apparently on their knees and BD who are to simply to far away.

Couldn't agree more EB :thumbsu:

I totally agree with you all as well here, however what can the clubs do if they are forced into the situation...have any of you heard about the situation of these sides coming into the O&K but in the near future of Bright leaving & either merging with Myrtleford, or standing alone, and entering the Tallangatta League? With Bright going 2 teams in the O&K would then "merge" and bring the numbers back to 10 teams which is the ideal number! Not playing each team twice every year is a nightmare schedule wise!

My Tips for the Week

Milawa by 5 Goals
Moyhu by 2 Goals
King Valley by less than 1 Goal
Tarra by 6 Goals
Whorouly by 2

MILAWA their forward line will be too hard to hold with the 2 Newtons and Simms.
MOYHU have to win, see Balf is back, I hope that is enough
KING VALLEY, by a few. Nth Wang could drag them back
TARRA, Sessions to kick 8....Would expect Glenrowan to scrag and tag and try to slow things right down.
BENALLA if they continue to play the way they have been, dead rubber but could be a good game all the same.... NO Tilson JB ???

I think they are just moving one league's problems into another league.
The simple fact is there just aren’t enough quality players around Benalla and surrounds to field 3 or 4 competitive sides with. Say Goorambat, Swanpool, All Blacks, Tatong (god help us) and even Glenrowan and Greta have several players from the area, something (or someclub) just has to giveway.
Im also concerned with what this will mean for 3rds footy in the o&k, its a pretty ordinary setup as it is at the moment, let alone how it will run with 2 or 3 more clubs without 3rds........

Goods points there Moosha...
However I don't think it is entirely the O&K's fault for the 3rds. I don't think it is an ordinary setup...they have NO support from the Wang Junior League where a lot of players come from & from what is reported the Junior League will not change it's stance with certain people in charge!
The O&K 3rds & Wang Junior League could work so well if there was the co-operation & the setup on & off the field would be so much better!

Down to the business end of the season....I reckon tarra sent out a big message with a big win over the Tigers.....How do you guys see the 2 games next week. Moyhu and Bright to go at it again and Milawa V G/Rowan.

Tarra is just surging ahead - and just proved on Saturday how far ahead they are.
I think Moyhu gained big edge on Bright by winning on Saturday, especially to come back from over 6 goals to win the game! Getting some run in the legs of some players who hadn't played for a few weeks will stand in Moyhu's favour as well!
Milawa should be too good for Glenrowan, although finals are completely different! Glenrowan hasn't had that experience for so long, will be interesting though

I reckon Bright and Greta will end up on the same points fighting for fifth spot with percentage just separating them. Top three will remain the same with Moyhu taking out fourth spot.
My prediction was correct :D

I will be looking forward to the Bright/Moyhu rematch this weekend, hopefully it's another tight encounter. Virge can you provide a quick rundown on how the match finished? I heard there was a shot after or close to the final siren. Bright must be pretty disappointed in only scoring two behinds in the final term.

I expect Milawa to be far too strong for Glenrowan, wouldn't be surprised if they dropped out in straight sets.

I see the umpires hit back at the criticism coming from this forum in their umpires report in the weekends record. I'm not having a go at the umpires here, but surely they must realise they aren't above everyone else. This is an open forum where people discuss anything related to our league. Players, coaches, officials and supporters are commented on weekly, so the umpires aren't alone. I've heard many umpires over the years comment on players and their performances, so it does occur both ways. Umpires are being treated like anyone else, so surely they can't complain about that.

Obviously the scribe wasnt at our game on the weekend, what were your thoughts JB.

Yes Bk , im not sure what happened but Bright turned the switch right off and we managed to get the score even with about 3 mins to go so there were some tense moments as both teams had the ball in fwd 50 during this stage but fortunatly it was us who managed to sneek through the behind that mattered whith about 20 seconds left to play. It made for a pretty good night it would be fair to say !

Really BK? That is pretty poor if they did do that. When you think about it they are being "employed" to do a job & if they aren't doing a good job people are entitled to have a say. When you think about it, players & supporters are the people who are paying for them by making there ay through the gate every week!
Very good points you make there BK!
