I don't give a shit what Ball did 5 years ago Roscoe, so you can forget any former first round pick ten year key position players.

...now adjust for Time on Ground ;)

But yeah, I had a good chuckle at Ross Lyon listing his accomplishments from years back as well.

Luke Ball is worth no more then a 2nd round pick, if StKilda don't accept that, bugger them and Ball.

I also had a laugh at Lyon launching his awards based review of Ball's career, the same Luke Ball that wasn't an automatic selection for their best 22.

It's a pity Ball played so well on Grand Final day, StKilda are using that as their main bargaining tool.

Luke Ball > O'Bree

-O'Bree plays a lot more time of the ground than Ball does so his stats are probably a bit higher.

- O'Bree gives away a lot of free kicks,
- Ball gets a lot.

-Ball is 5 years younger

I do rate Cheesy as a midfielder by the way, it's just that he's more of a loyal foot soldier than a star.

Good thread, please forward to Ross Lyon. I'm sure they won't want to lose him for nowt in the PSD, so i'm sure we'll get him tomorrow about 158pm for pick 30 or something.

Unfortunately for Pie supporters youre right and thats why he has a heavier price. Ball is much more cleaner and polished overall.

Stupid ****ing thread

Another dumb **** pie supporter overrating out players and list

Ball is a very good player and if he can stay fit and get more game time will be a star

Chip do you actually watch footy or just sprout crap stats that are dependant on interpretation of the staticians ?

Luke ball is 100x the player O'bree is and goes twice as hard at the footy, O'bree for someone who is meant to be an inside player he doesn't get to the bottom of many packs.

Just need to watch Luke Ball vs O'bree's finals games and you will see who is better. Ball was killing Geelong before he was taken off, O'bree on the other hand may as well donned an oppositions jumper in 1 of ours....

Time on ground the last 5 years Ball 94 mins, O'Bree 89 mins and free kicks agianst Ball .8 and O'Bree 1. And Ball's disposal efficiency has gone down almost every year 77.2, 73.7, 70.2, 73, 69.1, 67 as has his kicking efficiency 75, 70, 65, 66, 58 and this year it's lower again, the AFL average is 62.7.

Do you watch footy?, Ball is only one hundred times the player O'bree is um....... ok! He's better but not by much and younger but anyone who has watched him from being a junior, like I have and you obviously haven't, knows he just doesn't run as well. I credit him with reinventing himself as a purely inside midfielder buts thats all he is now and not a match winner like Judd and Hodge.

I'm not talking about the last 5 years. It's irrelevant!
Take 2009 for instance, Ball was playing 60% game time nearly every week (for some reason). That's 70 or so minutes a game. He played 46% in the Grand Final and still had 22 touches.

I'm almost certain O'Bree was playing at least 65% or more in the games he played this year, correct?

Give us a Cheese Ball then.

We need to get Ball sown up so we can move on to any other potential lesser trades.

Fact is We want Ball, Ball wants us and if no trade can be done he'll go to the PSD.

Saints are rightly holding out for the best possible deal, but Ball wants to go.

Get it done today please.

Point taken, but OB1 has been an awesome pickup over the years. If we can get the same out of Ball as we have out of O'Bree we are doing OK. At the same time you don't sell the farm for that sort of player.

Hopefully a fair deal is found.

This thread is a mystery wrapped in a riddle, wrapped in an enigma. :p

Seriously Chip, what are the stats for this year only, including TOG?

Theres no doubt that Ball is abetter player than O'Bree. However O'Bree has been more than a handy find for us over the years and has done his job.

Please go rewatch the 1st half of the GF then come back and re visit this thread, another game to watch is Pies vs Saints prelim where O'bree finished the game in the negatives...

My Point exactly.

Making conclusions from the tiny sample of half a game played in the wet isn't to bright, I prefer to look at entire seasons

You are kidding right? You can get stats to prove you anything. Stats (other than points scored) shows that St Kilda won the Grand Final.

O'Bree is close to the worst player in our 22, and Ball would be close to the best. Just watch the game, and stop worrying about stats.

Painfully hard to find. I can tell you he played 72% last year before he did his hammy.

"Ball missed the final seven games of 2008 after tearing his hamstring in Round 18 against Port Adelaide. He was one of the competition's leading inside midfielders before his injury as he ranked fourth in the AFL for contested possessions and tackles from Rounds 1-18. He was used sparingly however, as he played just 72% game time and was benched the fourth-most often of any St Kilda player. He averaged the sixth-most disposals of any St Kilda player last season and also averaged the most contested possessions and the second most handballs at the club."

Edit: Realfooty - the Hun's footy site has season tog stats for all players

If Ball turns out half as good as O'Bree, sign him up now and offer half the list.

O'Bree has been a star for us. Don't anyone argue otherwise. And Ball's footskills are slowly getting better as he gets more power through his leg back.

His disposal was good under the pressure in the Grand Final.

Plus he got no gametime. As the poster above me pointed out, he barely gets on the field under Lyon. He would build up to 80 minutes gametime under us with the heavy rotations.

He is a tackling and clearance machine. O'Bree is also a clearance machine and the 2 are equal on that stat.

Put Jolly there as a ruckman, and what an onball division we have!
