Re: Which top 4 team misses the 8 ?

Saints.....missed their chance. They had 17 blokes play 22 or more games last year....all their stars had peak seasons. Looks as tho King will struggle, which means McEvoy is forced to step up.....Ball is gone, if Hayes goes down it will be kids trying to win the hardball and feed the likes of Montagna and Dal Santo....that wont work! Terrible off-season, player disharmony with Lovett...losing a GF when the club was sooo dominant all year will haunt the players. If Hayes or Reiwoldt go down they are stuffed, but even with them playing I think they will fall away and just miss the 8

I think the side to miss this year (if any, because none may miss the finals in a perfect world) would be Collingwood. Lack of class against us in the qualifier, lucky to get over the line against Adeliade, got mauled against Geelong the week after.

Cheers MS, keep up the anti-oracle work.

It does us wonders :D

Not only did they make the top 8, it's looking highly likely all will stay top 4 this year, has that ever happened before?

Never happened before.

Adelaide missing the finals after finishing 5th (and it was a high 5th if you know what I mean) was about the closest the stat got this year.

Well the other one where a top 8 team finishes bottom 4 will hold up.

If Carlton can win one more game, they should stay in the 8. The other two spots will come from Hawthorn, Sydney, Melbourne and North, all of who missed the finals last year.

So it will be:

In: Fremantle and two of Hawks, Swans, Dees and Roos
Out: Adelaide, Brisbane, Essendon

Still a reasonable turnover of teams making the finals. Carlton can still miss and make it 4 from 8 not making it (all from 5-8 too).

The last time was 1965-66.

Previous occurrences:
1930-31
1925-26
1909-11 (three years running)
1904-06 (three years running)
1898-1901 (four years running)

How was it a fail champ ?

Only stated a historical fact and asked the opinions of which teams were likely to follow the pattern.

Comprehension not your strong point ?

In my opinion, only Collingwood are safe to make the 8 next year. They showed last year they had the depth to cope with significant injuries, their list is still young and you would think they could only improve. I don't think they will win the flag but they should comfortably make the top 8 and probably top 4. St Kilda would be the next best provided that Riewoldt stays on the park for at least 60% of the season. Any less than that, then they could be vulnerable

Whilst most media pundits are taking the safe option with Geelong, St Kilda and the Bulldogs, I believe there are question marks over all three teams entering 2010.

You asked for opinions, but also gave your own failed opinions. As quoted above. It's fail because you were wrong.

And unless one of them is struck down really badly by injuries will be same result for next year too.
Straw clutch fail. Dog's, Cats, and Saints, I could see falling back to the back. Changes happen in footy real fast when you least suspect it. All 3 lists are old or rely on older players too much to stay up for much longer and have had their time in the sun.

Fancy that, relying a little bit on your most experienced senior players? Who are these old timers that each of the teams rely on so heavily by the way?
