Heard a whisper the Pies are strongly considering using one of their first 2 picks on this kid from the ammos, worried Hawthorn are going to pick him if they wait any longer.

What's he like as a player?

I'd rather they didn't.

There are about 8 clubs after him.

He has played as a 18 year old in UB's senior side in A Grade in 09' & dominated that competition this year. He was invited to Bendigo U18 TAC side, but chose to play VAFA instead.

I have no doubt he would have been in the Top 3 Midfielders in that competition this year. Absolute jet, who has exceptional scope to grow.

I thought I heard Brisbane were into him too.

I really doubt he'll go in the main draft. He'll be more than likely rookie listed as he will appear to traditional recruiters as a project. North & Brisbane have been into him massively, but I still think they are apprenhensive given they don't rate the VAFA (which is the 3rd best standard of football in Victoria).

Collingwood's recruiters were summoned infront of Mick during the season. He went crazy as to why their 100 names didn't have Michael Barlow on it, told to look outside the square.

Don't be surprised if they have a few shock selections outside the traditional TAC Cup competition. A guy playing Amatuers in S.A, who has a brother who won a B&F in the AFL this year, was contacted by Collingwood totally out of the blue.

Silky player with good skills. Doesn't have elite pace, more of a lopey running style but he can break the lines. Dunno if he has AFL quality though, the physicality and intensity might be a bit much for him.

looks a decent prospect and having played mens footy a year earlier than the tac cup boys will help
i have faith in the hine

What planet have you been on?

He ran a 2.92 for his 20 metre sprint, broke the agility record (7.69) that Hill from Freo held( later broken by dahalus) and ran a 14.6 beep. Very, very few players have that set of combined numbers.

They are elite numbers by anyones standards and he will definately, definately be drafted -will be gone by mid 50 at the very latest

Did this kid originate from redan in the Ballarat FL? If so he must have had some rapid improvement?

Isaac Smith requests that you do not confuse him with anyone else :D

He did come from Redan, yes. Actually struggled to get a spot in the St. Patricks 1st team for a while, had an off year back in 07 but has taken strides in recent times.

Tests are one thing, the way they play is another. Nicholson doesn't play with much intensity, he's more your silky mover with time on his hands. His 20m sprint time is very good but he doesn't use it much.

A lot of clubs are looking at him, so I'm confident he'll be picked up either late in the draft or in the rookie draft. Personally I don't think he's that great, just don't think he has the aggro or intensity for AFL level.

Yeah I know. I just found it funny that your description also fit Isaac Smith perfectly, and I think everyone knows about him.

I remember (while I was leaving the VFL GF) being very annoyed they didn't put a sign in the stands 'warning: Isaac Smith WILL make you spill your coffee.'

As to Nicholson, the run and skills look good. Whether he has the intensity for AFL, as you say, is another matter entirely. A good chance to go though with this draft so weakened.

Well, that is different to what you said originally. You said, and I quote " He doesn't have elite pace". 2.92 and the agility record would suggest otherwise.

Rambling on about whether he uses it or not is another argument, you said he didn't have it!!

I was talking in a game context, but I'll admit my poor choice of words.

1 club has committed to drafting him, if he is av. If a Jarryd Blair can succeed at this level, Nicholson will have no issues.

He is the type you play as a loose man in defence, HB line. A few sides this year physically targeted him, he struggled a bit, none of team really flow the flag for him, but he'll learn from it. When he is on, he absolutely dominates. I'd say he reminds of a smaller Robert Murphy, he'll stop & prop, is a beautiful exponent of the dummy & turns players inside out. He glides. Never really runs at full pace, he plays 1 step ahead of the play.

Don't speak crap.

It was only 14.2 in the beep ;)

Don't be surprised if Hawthorn jump the gun & take him in the 2nd Round.

Lets get this straight the club he played with prior to Uni Blues was East Point. The kid does have elite stats, and remember that all his endurance, speed and agility atributes are worked on at an amateur level. Imagine what we could see given a full time training schedule in a afl environment. Anyone who as watched him play in the ammos would recognise that he does use his pace as very rarely is he tackled.
