Event Sweet FA Best & Grousest Awards Night - 8pm Monday 10th Sep.

All is set for the Best & Grousest award countdown, 8pm AEST on Monday, 10th September 2001.

A 3,2,1 was recorded for each home and away round, and these will be revealed on the night, resulting in the B&G award presentation.

I was thinking of dubbing the award the 'Attenborough Award', after the first Sweet FA player to actually resign from competition. Any comments?

As an introduction to the Best & Grousest count ... tentatively known as the Attenborough Award :

For each home and away match, the computer which played the games also calculated a 3,2,1 set of vote-winners. This is based on adding a point for every winner, subtracting a point for every clanger, and thereby giving each player a 'score'.

The votes were recorded by the computer, but I chose not to display them in the match commentaries or statistics. Much better to arrange a gala event like this one.

There were 14 home and away rounds, in which each team played 12 matches, and also enjoyed 2 byes.

Therefore, I think there are about 126 votes up for grabs (is that right? check that for me, willya, Sammy), and more than 120 players, from 7 teams, available to grab them.

So hold tight, as we launch into the magic, the mystery, and the mayhem, that is the 2001 Inaugural Attenborough Award count, for the Sweet Football Association Best & Grousest player of the season!

Round 1

Round one and the first ever Sweet FA season opened in a blaze of pyrotechnics. Seven teams took the field to do battle, and only won was to survive.

The Dragons opened the season by downing Team Pump, while Seventh Wonders thrashed hot flag favourites Team Kournikova. Timmy gave the Dingoes a bit of a lesson, and Pagan enjoyed the first bye.

Round 2 :

Kournikova made the winners list, defeating the Dingoes in a highscoring affair. Pagan Ducks opened their season with a loss to Team Timmy, and Pump gave the Wonders a bit of a football lesson. After two rounds, team Timmy were four points clear on top.

Round 4 :

Round 4 saw the Dingoes experience their first win, handing out an absolute hiding to the 7th Wonders. Kournikova knocked Team Timmy off its high horse, and the Pagan Ducks showed that they had what it takes, defeating the Dragons by 38 points.

Kournikova were suddenly a game clear on top of the ladder.

Round 5 :

The fifth round came to pass, and the Wonders were far too good for the Dragons. In the closest match of the season so far, Team Pump staved off a brave Dingoes outfit, winning by just 3 points. Team Timmy doused Pagan's delusions of grandeur in another nailbiter.

With Kournikovoa off with the bye, Team Pump slipped into 1st place.
