Malthouse - mentor coaching role at Carlton?

I'd be all for Malthouse joining us in some capacity but I highly doubt that he will be at Carlton next season. In fact I don't think he'll be at any club in 2012, I expect him to spend a year (at least) in the media.

After that, who knows and it's not worth speculating about TBH. Let's worry about next season and the indication is that Malthouse won't be fulfilling any role at any AFL club.

Ratten has shown that he can coach and manage his own coaching group without a Bomber Thompson to guide him. And he quite rightly wouldn't take too kindly to this move. Bringing in Malthouse would be interpreted as a lack of faith in Ratten's coaching. If we have a slow start to the year, then the media and our more questionable ]supporters will start the Malthouse for coach rumours. That's a distraction that Carlton doesn't need.

After Malthouse knocked back Eddie's offer to hang ground and mentor, I doubt that he would be interested in taking up a similar role at another finals club.

This is not a question of needing or not needing Malthouse.

The question is whether Malthouse would be of any benefit in a coaching role at the Carlton Football Club.

And I believe that the answer is yes. I like Ratts a lot and firmly believe that he is the right man to take us forward, and am not suggesting for one second that Malthouse should be employed as Ratten's replacement. However, if we can help Ratts by adding more experienced and proven coaches around him in the box then we would be mad to not, at the very least, explore the option.

Saying that the club would get distracted by what the media writes is a cop out and it is complete and utter shit.

If a Collingwood supporter came on here and said they lost on Saturday because they were distracted by what has been happening at their club off the field, you'd be one of the first to hang shit on them for holding that point of view. And you'd be correct.

The club has a duty to do what is deems to be best for itself both on and off the field and if that involves getting another experienced head in the coaches box then so be it.

Let the media say what they like. I can guarantee that the club would not care what the idiots in the media say, nor would they lose sleep over the opinion of a minority of supporters who can't tell their left from their right.

Do you think the club is regretting the decision to get rid of Fevola because of the idiots in the supporter base that want him back? Do you think the club regrets getting rid of him after seeing the countless articles in the media indicating that had Fevola been on our list we would have been a genuine contender?

What? It is completely different.

How many bridges has Malthouse burned at the Carlton Football Club?

How many times has Malthouse disgraced the Collingwood Football Club, not just at home but also abroad?

How you can compare the two situations is baffling, to be honest.

Malthouse was treated like shit by the Collingwood Football Club and left as a result.

McGuire said that Malthouse was finished emotionally and physically, but I don't believe it for a second.

Do you honestly believe that Mick would have stepped down after Saturday's loss had the club and Buckley not knifed him in the back and effectively sacked him?

There's no way to prove that he would not have stepped down anyway but it does not sound like a logical occurrence.

As I said, I expect him to take up a role in the media in 2012 rather than at another AFL club but it is not an impossibility that he will be back as a coach of some sort from 2013.

No disrespect either but this was posted less than 24 hours after he announced he was no longer at Magpies so it's a little early 'to move on' from this issue.

Plus his manager hinted very strongly yesterday that he would coach again (http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...use-not-finished/story-e6frf9jf-1226156416409).

The possibility of Mick having a role at Carlton is far from impossible. He likes the big stage and he would add a degree of ruthlessness that perhaps isn't quite there at Princes Park.

Considering that we made the second week of the finals, and would have gone further if we weren't robbed blind, I think Ratten has now done enough to secure his role long-term, which would mean that any Malthouse position would have to be purely administrative, or at the very least as an assistant coach. With that in mind, I simply don't think that Malthouse would be interested in coming to Carlton. I would have loved Malthouse to come here next season had we bombed out in 2011, but Ratten proved that we honestly simply don't need Malthouse at this club.

Most other coaches would have been sacked after 5 years without a flag.
He was at the most powerful and financial clubs in the land. They gave him every bit of support he wanted and still only got one flag (albeit, only just - they should have lost the first GF)
The great coaches may just be the ones who got the less financial clubs up into the 4 or 8.
They did it with much less assistance.

He coached the club that are favourites for next years flag for 10 years.
A flag we may be able to have a crack at.
Would that 10 years of knowledge be worth anything to us???

I honestly think his greatest coaching achievements were in 02 and 03 when he got a fairly average bunch into two consecutive GF's... only (thankfully) to have Brisbane pummel them.

Agree with this ,Mick for the last six months has made sure Mick has been at the forefront speculation wise..could have nipped it in the bud but didn't. Can understand his reasons why due to him accomplishing more than all expected but his ego would be better suited to media.
