GOAT: Rafa vs Roger

The most ridiculous thing about their match up is that whenever Federer shows a bit of form in a tournament nearly all of the 'experts' predict that he'll win, this is despite all the evidence accrued in the history of theri rivalry, it's beyond a joke as once again Nadal breaks him down.

If they meet at Wimbledon just watch everyone predict a Federer vistory and watch Nadal win in 3 or 4 sets.

Will Fed ever beat Nadal again? The Fed camp should be extremely disappointed with this loss. Twice the unforced errors, missed a great opportunity for another slam, and he's running out of opportunities.

Well well well , 8-2 in slams, 3-2 on non-clay surfaces now.If you take indoors out of equation, its a pretty depressing stat for Fed :D

Absolutely nobody has dominated for such a long time like Fed. And all the head to head crap about Nadal being better than Fed is rubbish, Djokovic has won his last 6 against Nadal, does that make him better than Nadal in GOAT status?

The answer is no.

rubbish. No goat in any individual sport has been dominated by their greatest rival like this.
Novak has done it for 1 year.If he keeps doing it, then we will see

Fed is mentally shot against Nadal. He just can't break him on key points. How many times did Nadal immediately break back after Federer going up a break?

He plays with the weight of the world on his shoulders against Nadal and played much better throughout the tournament. It's sad but it doesn't take away from the fact that Federer is the greatest of all time IMO.

GOAT is more complicated than simply H2H. Roger's the GOAT, but it's not clear cut, mainly due to Rafa. If Novak has another year or two like last year, he also has to come into calculations.

Easily the best level of men's tennis we've seen.

Nadal is cool. He keeps beating Fed in one in one battles. Surely that makes him the GOAT

**** OFF, Rod Laver won the grand slam twice. People who cheer on Nadal are sad and any player so much is really sad. anyone who calms to be better than someone without winning a true GS is pathetic, like any Indian who says Sachin Tendulkar is better than Bradman. Get some realism in ya.

You can't compare what Rod Laver did to the current day. It's now a global, truly professional sport. We could have the 3 greatest players of all time playing simultaneously.

Imagine how good Fed would be if he played in an earlier era. Nadal wouldn't be half the player he is without today's string technology that keeps the ball in the court.

If Fed was around at the same time as Sampras (both peaking at same time), he would have blasted him off the court, 9 times out of 10. He's just as good a volleyer as Rafter, but with world-class groundies.
Are you serious?, how would federer go against pete on a fast court like wimbledon used to be with improved racket technology to boot? he would get monstered dont kid yourself. that is the big issue when your having an arguement as to who would win, its one of the reason's nadal has been able to win at wimbledon, the courts are significantly slower than they were 10-15 years ago. Pete Sampras was nigh on unbeatable on anything that resembled a fast court, take a look at his indoor record.

I completely agree with this. Tennis is now truly an international sport and much more difficult to be completely dominant. However the 80's were also incredibly strong. I think McEnroe pushes very strongly for one of the best ever.

nadal will go down as the best world number 2 in history....didnt stay at number 1 for very long did he....

If you are going to make comments like that at least look up the statistics to back up your argument. Nadal has spent 102 weeks as world number 1, so basically 2 full years.

I am looking forward to one of the best rivalries in world sport continue tomorrow night. I really think Fed will win it in 4, he has been in great form and I think Nadal has lost a little since his outstanding season in 2010. Of course it could go the other way, but Fed has got his confidence back when facing Rafa. Hoping for another classic, hope they both play extremely well.

mate rafa owns feds arse always has always will

It's makes me sad to think there are people out there who think Rafa is near Fed in GOATness.

People need to go and have a look at peak Fed in 04-07. He was so much further ahead of his competition than peak Rafa. Fed was untouchable, he totally dominated an era. Rafa has never been that far ahead of his competition. Djokovic could still go on to surpass Rafa imo.
a few points that need to be addressed here,

A. The depth of competition was not that great and all of nadal, djokovic and murray where not even in their peak, not only that there are many more players capable on their day of beating federer now than back than such as berdych, tsonga, del potro etc. Davydenko was a top 4 player in the 04-07 era, what does that tell you?, the 1 player besides nadal capable of matching and beating federer in that era was safin when he was at his best which is on a par with djokovic, nadal and murray of today.

B. despite his record he didnt beat Rafa at the french in that period, didnt even really get close, He has beaten Nadal once on the surface in 09 the year nadal had the injury at the french. Quite frankly if your the GOAT you beat anyone on any surface no matter how good that player is on that particular surface. Rod Laver is the greatest player of all time, if anyone disagrees with that they dont know much about tennis.

Fed's serve is almost as effective as Pete's. The serve is the only area he has it over Fed, and Sampras would be killed by Nadal.
