Re: AFL Round 5 - Collingwood v Essendon - Changes and Prematch Discussion

Thanks, nice read.

My head can't pick the Anzac day winner, but I'm looking forward to seeing the game at the G.

It'll be a very hard contest with both teams sure to treat this as a mini-final. The Dons want to reverse the Anzac day trend, and the Pies to consolidate their last win with another statement.

Re: AFL Round 5 - Collingwood v Essendon - Changes and Prematch Discussion

I think you will find that Dawes got about triple Paine's possessions. Paine is not ready for the big time yet.

Think Dawes got 15 or 16 possessions against Port.

Not bad for a bloke who's playing crap ;)

Re: AFL Round 5 - Collingwood v Essendon - Changes and Prematch Discussion

Snagged two pretty good tickets today on the Ticketek website. Probably better seats than what I would have go at 9am back in March :p

Seriously can't wait. ANZAC Day is one of the more amazing days of the year. It's the second biggest game of the year, as the crowd is usually Collingwood or Essendon with limited neutrals.

Tipping us by 25 but wouldn't be surprised if the Dons got the big Running Double come Wednesday afternoon. Playing slightly better footy than us at the moment.

Re: AFL Round 5 - Collingwood v Essendon - Changes and Prematch Discussion

It is a massive game for us. Really a must win given our start to the season, and with all the inexperience we have, and the stars we will have missing it is going to be tough.
Didak and Brown in would help a little.
Really would like to see somebody play close to Jobe Watson. He is a star in close, just about the best in the league. We need to have a body at him at all stoppages. I'm not really sure whether we have a player to do it, but if we dont he will be their kickstart if they are to get going. I think the job should be given to Wellingham for best part of the day.
Let Stanton run with Pendles or Swan (whoever Hocking doesn't take) but we must have a shutdown on Watson, especially with the way Ryder is bound to smash us at centre bounces.

Re: AFL Round 5 - Collingwood v Essendon - Changes and Prematch Discussion

Are we naming our team tonight or tomorrow?
My guess is tomorrow night, as it would already have been released if it was tonight.:)

Both teams will name more of a squad then a settled 22, any of the 25 named may play or not.

Would bring in Didak and maybe wood if the weather is good. Bringing Brown in is a worry for me. Only been back for a few games after a whole year out with two knee issues. If he is right to go then he comes in but I don't want to rush him. If we are to win the flag this year we will need him firing at the end. Who goes out I don't know. Sinclair seems the first choice but we have all said that for the last few weeks. If wood comes in then Paine is out and Young for Didak.

Re: AFL Round 5 - Collingwood v Essendon - Changes and Prematch Discussion

Eade on 360 would neither confirm or deny Didak's inclusion for Wednesday, but said he was available.

Personally if they weather stays dry I'd think about him as the sub, but if it's wet I wouldn't bother.

Re: AFL Round 5 - Collingwood v Essendon - Changes and Prematch Discussion

Why wouldn't they play Dids? He's been outstanding in the VFL the last two weeks.

Re: AFL Round 5 - Collingwood v Essendon - Changes and Prematch Discussion

IN : Didak, Brown,
Out: Sinclair(please god make this happen), Buckley

We have to be switched on, or it could get ugly.
Dawes surely has to have a goood game soon.
This is the last game that we will have a weakend side, round 6 we are getting some big names back.
Win this game and we will be on a roll, if you look at the fixture youll see why:thumbsu:

Reckon JOELY's got it, if it's wet ( and I thnk that's forecast) Didak may be less useful?

Otherwise he may well play, very possibly as sub given his fitness levels are likely to be below the other guys.

In didak elliot(sub) brown

out - Sinclair buckley and paine/seedsmen

Good points. I don't know who stops Watson although we never play taggers. Haven't seen a lot of bombers but ryder, Watson and stanton appear the dangers. If we beat those 3 we win imo.

Re: AFL Round 5 - Collingwood v Essendon - Changes and Prematch Discussion

U cant really stop watson, his too big and good and he doesnt hurt u with uncontested possesions. U cant tag someone whos already in and under, u'll just end up giving away tonnes of frees, thats why taggers usually go to stanton because he hurts u more with uncontested possies and exellent kicks.

Id prefer to see wellingham go to stanton if we need a tagger, but it would be best just to start with no taggers and back our players in and see how it unfolds, it might slow down wellinghams development if he has to play a negative tagging role all the time

Can not wait to see Nath out on the ground. I actually don't think I'll sleep tomorrow night!!
I pity you in a few weeks when Nate and Taz are on the ground together, we might have to have St Johns Ambulance on hand for you.:p:eek:

I still believe both Didak and Brown have to play, it's a nine day break afterwards, which is perfect for both to recover from their first senior hitouts of the year.

Add that our next game is on the rock hard Etihad surface again and if we don't play Dids and Brown this week, I would even consider not playing them next week for their first senior hitouts.

I see it as more of a long term thing, where they need the miles in the legs at senior level, and they have done everything asked of them at VFL level, so it is time to pull the trigger on both.

We can always sub one of them out late like we did BJ last week.:)

Have to concur. Although I feel we might be outpointed in the ruck contest so Wellers might have to be more aware of Stanton.

Swan will need to brind his a-game again. Hocking will be all over Pendles if he plays. Swan head-to-head with Watson a crucial battle.

I think Blair, Pendles and Swan would be a good combo. Maybe put Blair on Watson.

I say we just upgrade Caolan Mooney now and get him tagging. This may sound like sarcasm, but i tell you what - I would love to see us try it.
