yes, but was i wrong or was spurr in the fwdline?
smaller running player spurr is not
dont get me wrong i rate spurr from what ive seen so far but am still scratching my head at silvagnis absence
and no ive never been part of the ,johsnton ,mcphee, dawson haters brigade, often ive defended all three,
i remember when mundy was the chief scapegoat on here ffs

Two different types of players TBH

Stormee has it right, if it was someone like Lower you'd prefer then yeah, but SNOS is a KPB

And besides, Dawson and McPharlin & co. are doing a fine job as we are the 3rd best defensive side in the competition at the moment

SCNOS hasn't shown enough form in the WAFL to warrant selection in an established backline. He wasn't exactly going boonta playing forward either, so in the reality of now, he waits and develops.

Good on Spurr for looking like another rookie success story for us. We've got a great cadre of these working class players now who are capable of a bit of dash. Just need to reel in a superstar.

Pretty ****ing hard when every second week SNOS is held back from playing WAFL.

them's the breaks of a fringe player. he'll get his time. he might come in next week for mcphee even, although if mcphee is out, then we're back to square one for a small defender. maybe spurr steps up, as suggested above.

Yeah, he will get his time

I said earlier that we are the 3rd best defence in the league - but my guess is we will move up to 2nd - (Carlton will kick more than 60 against the saints) and changing that permenant back 6 would be a bad move unless it is for form/injury/suspension

Shows the value in picking up quality mature agers from the state leagues. While I'm happy with the young guys we've drafted, we could've picked up Spurr, Horsley & Beau Wilkes, which would've given us a small defender, extra midfield rotation and a secondary fwd marking target. Would have filled holes that needed to be filled.

Yes, you're 100% right here. The mature aged guys almost always succeed and the young guys invariably fail. Norwich/NAB Rising Stars rarely become stars.

In the draft the recruiters rank all the kids according to ability. It takes a lot more than ability to make it. Hard Work, determination to succeed, courage, ability to listen to advise are all required as well. You don't find these things out until an individual is 19 years old plus.

Every year, every club is absolutely thrilled with the young players they get in the draft ... three years down the track they all wish they had done things differently.

Take a look at the 2006 and 2007 draft and who we picked. If I had more time I'd be more comprehensive in this post but for the time being I'll summarise:

We have delisted almost all of them. We have a gaping hole in our list for players with five years experience, the 23-25 year olds. We had to pick up these mature bodies because we fluffed the drafts.

We are still paying for it, it will be another five years in my opinion before that period is out of influencing our list and the potential players we can put out on the field. Of course there are some complexities with the list below, but just for a quick summary.

2006 Draft; Fremantle's first pick # 31 - Clayton Collard - DELISTED
Players of note between this selection and our next:
Kurt Tippet, Alwyn Davey, Todd Goldstein, Bachar Houli, Will Schofield

Fremantle's second pick # 52 - Brock O'Brien - DELISTED
Players of note between this selection and our next:
Lindsay Thomas, Robbie Gray, Josh Hill, Tyson Goldsack, Justin Westhoff

Fremantle's third pick # 77 - Calib Mourish - DELISTED
Players of note between this selection and our next:
Aaron Edwards, David Rodan, [now into rookie draft], Sam Jacobs, Clinton Jones, Sharrod Wellingham

Fremantle's fourth pick rookie # 13 - Chris Smith - DELISTED
Players of note between this selection and our next:
Matthew Suckling, Jake King, Jarrod Harbrow

Fremantle's fifth pick rookie # 28 - Andrew Foster - DELISTED

Fremantle's sixth pick rookie # 42 - Darren Rumble - DELISTED
Players of note between this selection and our next:

Fremantle's seventh pick rookie # 53 - Benet Copping - DELISTED

Lachlan Henderson, Ben McEvoy, Patrick Dangerfield, Cyril Rioli, Jack Grimes, Harry Taylor, Callan Ward, Scott Selwood, Tayte Pears

Fremantle's second pick # 24 - Clayton Hinkley - DELISTED
Players of note between this selection and our next:

Fremantle's eighth pick rookie # 22 - Luke Pratt - DELISTED
Players of note between this selection and our next:
Jared Petrenko, Jeremy Laidler, David Ellard

Fremantle's ninth pick rookie # 34 - Calib Mourish - DELISTED

Fremantle's tenth pick rookie # 50 - Ryley Dunn - DELISTED
Players of note between this selection and our next:
Brodie Martin, Callum Wilson, Shane Mumford, Beau Wilkes

The likes of Spurr, Barlow, Broughton, Silvani, Lower and Ballantyne were desperately needed to this hole, thankfully they seem capable. We are fortunate.

Palmer left he was not delisted.

You're right, but I didn't have the time to go through the history and reasons behind the other guys, so I used "DELISTED" as a means of demonstrating that player was no longer on our list, then listed the other AFL playing options taken between the picks.

If Palmer had not blown his knee and continued as he had in 2008 I think we'd have him

People seriously wish we had drafted Beau ****ing Wilkes. That is moronic.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. The fact is we don't have a second decent tall forward, which means Pav will get double teamed all day. Wilkes would offer more than Anthony/Keps/Zac(these guys don't even kick bags at wafl level!) as a marking target inside 50.

You need two fwd targets so one of them can get one on one with their defender. Obviously it would be a short term solution, but even if we draft tall this year it will take them a year or two to be ready. If its not wilkes, we need to get a mature fwd tall from somewhere, a mature ager from a state league is cheap, in terms of both draft picks and cap space.

If we can't snag Cloke through FA where will we get one?

Wilkes is worse than Keplar and about even with Anthony. He is not a good footballer at all.

Kicked 5 goals six times last season at wafl level. How many times have Kep/Anthony done that in recent times? Not saying he's a great player but would fill a role. Keps isn't a key forward, more a wing/high forward type where he is a very hard matchup. He only gets a run deep forward due to a lack of options.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree.

Well done !! It's impossible to argue in favour of drafting a whole lot of kids who "can play", when you put up something like this. The thing is recruiters get paid very good money to make these stupid decisions and they never seem to pay much of a price.
