Review Rd 10 vs West Coast: Post game celebrations & Hammo ridiculing

my only disappointment is the lack of credit being given by the majority of footy 'experts'/commentators for the lions win.

most were saying eagles were disinterested, lacked intensity, suffering from the longest road trip in footy & so on.

it would have been great to hear them say that brisbane played out of their skin, inspiring, never say die footy that the fans want to see each week, win lose or draw. but should we expect any better.

as a melbourne based supported the radio has been all about melbourne, next to nothing about brisbane.

Not trying to compare the two seasons but this was June 3, Round 10 2012. Exactly 11 years 1 day ago on June 2, Round 10 2001 we also defeated a ladder leading side. In that game we played as a team and defeated a ladder leading team who had only lost 1 game up to that point. I'm not saying this season will be like that season but I hope this game turns out to be a launching pad for greater things.

As good as our win was, I kind of still do think that the Melbourne win was the story of the round. Good on them I say.

I watched the 4th quarter from my kids' play mat. I moved there at 3/4 time to play with the kids and didn't want to jinx us by moving back to the couch when the comeback started. I didn't really have a great view of the TV and as a result, I thought Polks' goal was just a really long drop punt. Didn't realise that he'd gone the torp!!!

My son said to me at the end of the game "Is it good that the Lions won, Dad? You look happy!"

I think yesterdays performance can be put down to brilliant coaching. The way the game panned out you could tell that is what Vossy and the coaching staff were hoping for. A quick start, than a hard fought contest for the next 2, than the plan was always to bring in Green to have an impact on the scoreboard in the 4th and hopefully help us breakaway from them. This is the first week that I could clearly see a game plan going on. Obviously every week we have tactics and a game plan but I felt yesterday as if I was in the coaches box:p All of the correct player match ups were made and it was clear that in just about any other game they would have subbed McGrath off with his injured knee but they needed Green to have that impact in the 4th so they asked Ash to bravely battle on and he did! Well done Ash Well done Green Well done Voss Well done LIONS!!!!!!

I've been thinking that. There's eerie similarities between the two. Let's see what we can make from it.

Watching Drummond's game yesterday actually felt bittersweet. It just proved what a player he could've been had his body held together throughout his career. As far as skills go he's up there in the competition's elite.

Back page of the state rag today. Not bad considering their lovechild Brisbane Broncos had a romping win over Newcastle yesterday.

Shall not return from this one. :(

Gutted as I am a massive fan of his work on the Bay but the lesson here is if you have three serious infractions and you've been warned not to troll team boards...

...DO NOT TROLL TEAM BOARDS!

Is he able to resurrect himself on the third day as someone else?......he certainly makes us laugh at times......I will miss his silly antics truth be told:(

Wow what a weekend. So glad I kicked myself out of bed to go to this game. After a big night on saturday celebrating my 30th birthday I woke up on Sunday feeling pretty stuffed. Briefly I flirted with the idea of just watching this one on tv in my living room with glasses on, however after asking myself what would browny do I scraped myself off the mattress chowed down some bacon and eggs and headed off. And bloody hell am I glad that I did.

What a great game and fantastic effort from the guys. I was so tense in the last quarter my body is still sore. I was hugging everyone, including the guy that was sitting in front of me who has been a member for over 15 years, jumping around like crazy. It was simply a superb moment.

While there were still areas that we need improving on I thought the most impressive part of our game was our ability to run hard in defence and prevent them getting an easy transition out of their back half. We dropped off a little in the 3rd quarter and it showed on the scoreboard but for most of the game in this area we were fantastic. So many times in the first and second qtr WC would switch play and look to spread round the boundary or through the corridor only to find every WC player with an opponent right on them. That in turn caused them to try to pinpoint some really hard passes that resulted in turnovers. It took some really hard gut running to make that happen which I was worried about taking its toll in the last, but to their credit they gutsed it out.

Must have been all the encouragement of the sponsorship function during the week that got them over the line :)

I wanted Polkinghorne dropped for this match and I have been privately and not so privately dumping on Voss for weeks. What a double dope.:o

dont want to be a pessimist or anything but lets not get to carried away with yesterdays win

brisbane still still have te same MAJOR weakness's as they did before the game

dont know whether or not its a good or bad thing having the bye this week on one had its good a great chance to get everyone fit but on the other hand not playing the week after such a momentum changing win could be bad especially going up against hawthorn

but if they show the same spirit AND DONT GIVE UP they might only lose by a couple of goals or points

I think there is a difference between enjoying a win and getting carried away.

Everyone on this board seems pretty cognisant of where we are at overall and are definitely in the "enjoyment" space.

If you can only derive satisfaction from your team being a premiership winner, statistical probablity would indicate that you are going to be a sad panda 17 out of every 18 years.

Got to enjoy the wins when they come.

Exactly. We played well against a good side. Why shouldn't people get excited? Does footy have to be so clinical?

Why not? This is a time for rejoicing. The rest comes later.

Now yesterday is what keeps my love of our game alive. What an absolute ball-busting, gut-wrenching epic. One for the long-term memory bank. I thought the roof was coming off the place when Polkinghorne kicked our last goal.

For all those asking for an apology for criticism of Polkinghorne- not coming from me anyway, I'm afraid. Yesterday showed what he is capable of and what we should reasonably expect, week in and out.

Just finished watching the replay. Honestly, most off the frees for the WC were justified and fairly obvious. What was also apparent was that the frees we should have got just weren't paid. How the hell they could collectively miss the hit to McGrath's scone, and the even more obvious head high to Green is beyond comprehension. And just because Natanui and Cox are bigger doesn't give then licence to climb over Hudson's head.

Just keep those 3 ****heads well away from future Lions games and I;ll be happy.

Maybe we've turned the corner.

Yep, a clutch, match-winning 65 metre torp every week or go home Polks! :p

J/k Tassie. I agree with your point. One swallow does not make a summer. Polks has to build from here. I think he is a confidence player, so hopefully that kickstarts him.

How'd the electric chicken wire go?

Hammo: "Shaw (Tony) suspects that Brisbane must believe their list is below standard, which is why Voss' contract was extended last year despite a second straight year out of the finals.
'No doubt, they have got to be realistic and I think Vossie is lucky that the administration understand,' he said.
Look at West Coast's list. Compare what John Worsfold has and what Vossie has, I know where I'd rather be'."
Brissy?;)

Anyone giving us a chance to make it two in a row against BYE this weekend? I think Hammo would've written us off already.

Speaking of apologies, I think one is due from that which goes by the name of "Caro" from that show The View, err The Circle, i mean Footy Classified, for slagging off Vossy a while ago about his treatment of Bradshaw, Risca and Power.

And when she's done she's wanted back in aisle 3 :D

Polks was our hero yesterday, no doubt....but there was another one, only I've looked and looked but can't make out who it was..Goose?...anyway, after McKeever touched the ball, one of our players picked up the ball and instead of standing in the square and looking for somewhere to kick....he ran straight away and kicked it straight down the middle!

..if he had of stood around umming and aahhing, things would have turned out differently..

What he did, turned/saved the game for us (as did McKeever, but..) and I wish they would run with it more often and catch the opposition off guard before they can man up or get back..

**edit: ...just looked another couple of times....it was Drummo!...I kept missing who commentators said it was..and after so many viewings, knew which player to watch and saw the number.......brilliant effort Drummo, you saved the day with your quick thinking!

Ahh well.. at least I got off my arse & set up pinnacle studio again.

Must have replayed it a 100 times now.
