What was the point of having Dustin martin living with the president if he was getting any "life skill" taught???? seems a poor reflection on the president if Martins life skill have gone backwards..... WTF???

i'm not sure why the story has changed but it's now different to the one i first saw

the first story released was that martin missed being surrounded by a family environment and couldn't afford his own place so he moved in March. that way he could still have meals cooked for him and settle into the club.

not sure if this is the real reason though but that was the original story, i think it was even posted on this board somewhere

he moved in with the marchs after living with jayden post, been there for the about the last 3 years till a week ago, i can't see the marchs letting him run a muck like what is been said, don't know them personally so im not making any further comment.

You can lead Dusty to a washing machine but you cant make him dial the spin cycle.....

I think it's pretty harsh to link the Pres to Dustin's behaviour. The Pres does read BF. And he's probably hurting as much as Dustin is. Dustin took an non prescribed sleeping pill, drank two bourbons and slept in. They are the known facts. If that's a reflection of bad parenting or life skill teaching for a 20yo by the President then, while I'm no Dr Benjamin Spock, I think that's harsh. The President has opened his house to Dustin for 2 years. He didn't have to do that but he did. Dustin is now learning to live alone and be responsible. He has learned a tough lesson on the way, but it's a tough lesson in the context of the AFL environment in which he exists. If you take AFL out of it, then having two drinks and a sleep in is probably par for the course for a 20 year old.
The Pres should be congratulated for taking Dustin in. Not pilloried.

2nd that sentiment.
What March has done to assist Dusty, and what he did for Cuz, was above and beyond what his "normal" duty is.

I'm not saying Gary could have stopped him from taking sleeping pills..... but the concerns raised by Craig Cameron about Martin struggling to cope with the transition of living outside a family enviroment is a worry.... all happening whilst our pres is at the Olympics.
Martin was put into March's care for these exact same reasons..... seems he needs more time? I thought 2 years would be enough.

This gen y attitude of "my probs are due to xxxx" pisses me off. He is a grown man FFS, and accountable for his own actions. Parents and guardians teach and guide, but how you live is ultimately up to you.

He has moved out and into his own place, and you blame March because he is overseas for work?!?!?

Sorry nut this is a shit thread.
If he ***** up again it will be his own doing and not another parties fault.
The guy made a mistake lets give him a second chance.

I blame the March family full stop, what a disgrace not teaching Dustin personal responsibility and life skills. When I moved out of home at 20 I did the gardening and volunteered at the local nursing home reading to elderly people with poor eyesight. In my spare time I won a blue ribbon in competitive bonsai growing and taught my dog to tap dance. My coconut frosted tea cake won first place in the local show, and I created nutritious meals for the homeless using restaurant and supermarket waste. Being a bit poor I had to shear sheep to spin the wool to make my own clothes, which were then featured on the catwalks of Paris. Not only did I not drink, but I was personally responsible for convincing 17 local drug addicts to kick their habits, and they are all now healthy and productive members of society. I once built up a $10 stake in a poker game to playing in the high roller room at Crown Casino. Desiring a simple life I donated the $1,020,400 winnings to the Salvos.

... but I did sleep in once and missed my morning shift at the soup kitchen.

Good post.
Rubbish thread.

Some people just look for issues that aren't there don't they. Just a poor thread.

Didn't know as well as welcoming him into his home which he didn't need to do he is also Dustins minder.
Ridiculous to be critical of a guy for going well above what his volunteer role at the club requires

im sure they have done the best job they could have for him, and looked after him well , can't see dusty letting them down on purpose. lets face it he has made a mistake and its cost him, he will learn from it and learn quicker than most 21 year males i would think. if anyone is to blame and i am probably going to get critised for this but blame bringing ben cousins to the club not the pres and his family, dusty idolised him.

He just turned 21, and moved out of (effectively) home.

He'll take some time to adjust and make some missteps along the way.

All of us who have been through that doubtless had issues, but thankfully for us, we weren't living under a microscope like Dusty is.

He'll learn and grow from all of this, he'll continue to make mistakes, some of which will warrant punishment, most wont, but so long as he doesn't make the same ones too often, I don't have a problem with them.

It's called life.

hilarious!!

Only on our board could someone take a positive such as what our Pres did and turn it into a negative for what he could have done or didnt do

Embarrassing!

It is not at all Gary's fault, Dusty has nobody to blame other than himself

My favourite quote ever, from the film 'Rocky Balboa'

[And when things got hard, you started looking for something to blame, like a big shadow. Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get it and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! Now if you know what you're worth then go out and get what you're worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain't you! You're better than that!]

Dustin is going to take this hit, cop it on the chin, he's been cut to pieces by his own stupidity but he's going to keep moving forward. he's not going to blame the president, dimma, daniel connors or shane edwards, cowards do that and that ain't him!

Any parent understands that despite your best efforts your kids will still be kids. Be bloody sad if they werent really. Unfortunately for Dusty he is a kid in the constant spotlight so he has to play by different rules. Hopefully he learns fast like my kids but if not its no ones fault other than his own. This generation spends way too long not accepting the consequence for their actions IMHO.

I ok I am prepared to cop the whacks for bringing this up.... It seems Dusty is his own worst enemy... a kid in a mans body... What were the reason why March took Dusty in ... in the first place?? It seems pretty clear now. The point I am making is surely the club with it's resources could have made Dusty more prepared for the tranisitions he is now making.... remember by taking him in March has taken on some of that responsibilty!! how anyone cant see that surprises me.... these problems aren;'t new and they will continue to be there in every generation. I apluad March for putting his hand up but!!
So for Craig Cameron to turn around and say that Dustin is lacking in simple life skills and now neads to learn these skills worry's me when he has been under the care of our club in the form of living with the president.... Our track record in looking after troubled soles is not exactly great. Is it a clubs responsibilty???? yes ??/ no?? if so how much?? Is Dustin just a spoilt kid that is just a &*^khead??.... With the amount of resources that is pumped into clubs for player welfare are we getting a bang for our buck???
Because the worst thing that could happen is for Dustin to spiral out of control from here.

I feel for Gary March and I can understand the hurt that Dustins action would have brought him...... for the club dealing with him from now until he finally "grows" up will be challenge. Do we look back at the lst 2 years and think it was a wasted exercise when clearly Martin STILL isn't ready for the freedoms of living outside a family enviroment.... or could have we prepared him better???
