Poetic license there..... if only everyone could remember goals in a losing cause like you obviously can from last year's prelim. If you guys had've won, perhaps, but in a few seasons it'll be forgotten.

Not every week mate- Essendon/Hawthorn works well because there tends to be a bit of feeling between the supporters and because the two clubs have a genuine on-field rivalry.

In the past we've generally had one for Carlton, Collingwood, Richmond, West Coast and Hawthorn.

Just try posting even a sensible, civil comment on the Carlton board. Wow, that's an experience.

The best way to describe it is trying to reason with a toddler- they scream at you, they hold their hands over their ears, they go "la la la la la la" when you try and reason with them.

Some rivalries come and go. If you asked a Hawks supporter in the '70s who their biggest rival was, they would have almost universally said North Melbourne. In the '80s, it was either Essendon or Carlton- probably just Essendon, but there was certainly a very strong Carlton/Hawthorn rivalry at the time.

And then of course recently, Geelong for obvious reasons.
