hey guys. was reading an article on the age web site and it was saying how the saints are trying to get a game in NZ next season which im sure were all aware of but it goes on to say possibly against the swans.

has anyone else heard more about this? would you be keen to see us play in NZ?

Id say only if there were good compensation $$$ in it as im sure there wont be a large crowd. in saying that, i wouldnt mind going to watch a game over there. flights are cheap from Melbourne.

No No No. This is another Melbourne game the Victorian faithful lose. they should make it GC or GWS who really have no fan base in Melbourne at all. Sending games to Canberra or Launnie is one thing, it's a trip that can be made but NZ is too far.

I agree, send GWS vs GC and make it an annual derby.

The mrs WAS disapointed we didn't have our annual Canberra trip this year, and ive always wanted to go to nz, but for the sake of our Melbourne supporters and keeping our side from travelling further unnecessarily, I'd prefer they kept it to sides based in Melbourne. They can afford to lose a home game considering they play more footy in their home state than interstate sides do

In the long run it should be a good thing for the swans and mabe they will just give us more home games against West Coast, Adelaide, Port Adelaide, Brisbane, Gold Coast and GWS and make up the difference with increased away games against the Melbourne based teams but definately bad for our Melbourne supporters if a game cannot be manufactured this way. Do the Afl even do this?

Im sure membership costs will be reduced for Melbourne supporters if a game is lost but they want more games not less.

This could be an opportunity to grow the game in NZ, and who knows, maybe some more members for the clubs? We could showcase the club to kiwis before they make the trek over to Aus, and then we'd be top of mind for club they'd think about following :) Obviously hopefully not at the cost of Melbourne games - 1 MCG H&A game a season? That's unfair!

This is a good point of view. But unfortunately most Kiwis, and this is from experience at work, where there are ten plus bros,
some newly migrated and some here for years. Are only interested in rugby union when the all blacks are playing,or follow
the Nrl instead. Most Kiwis could not give a toss about Afl!

Under the membership arrangements we are guaranteed 5 games in Melbourne by the AFL.

In reality most of the Victorian members don't go to the Geelong game due to very limited reserved seat capacity so losing the Geelong game won't be an issue.

Provides the added bonus that we don't have to play in Geelong and we won't double up against hem next year.

I'm baffled the Saints aren't playing a Melbourne team in this game given how many games there are in Victoria, but I guess the AFL considers us to be more of a drawcard being from the biggest city in Australia (would explain why North aren't playing there). It's quite flattering, really!

To be honest not thrilled with this....all it means is the Melbourne fans either lose a game or possibly those of us currently in other states WA, SA ect. miss out on the chance to see the team play.

Don't think it does that much for the club either, yeah maybe a few new supporters but how many of them are going to become members? Probably none. So there better be something very good in it finacially for the club, or it's just a big waste of time.
And as far as onfield goes, it could hurt if it does cost us a MCG game - we only got one this year as it is (which could come back to bite bigtime in a fortnight)
