on another note apparently goddard isnt the savior for essendon:
http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/150973/default.aspx

"That's not the case at all; I'm here obviously to offer a bit. I'll do my best to win games of footy as well, but I'm not going to be the saviour at all.

"The development will come from the younger guys. With out sounding too big headish (sic), I think a lot of people know what they're going to get from myself and Jobe and Stants and the older guys."

reading that i tend to agree with watters. it was all about the money

I reckon Roo will hang up the boots at the end of 2014, which is pretty sad

This will be Lenny's last season:(

i tend to agree but wouldnt be surprised if roo hangs them up after next year

something tells me its milne and hayes last year but we'll see how they go i guess :-(

Sorry if its been mentioned but looks like Pick 77 will be used to upgrad Dunell. There's article on Saints website about history of our draft picks and they only do our first 4 picks.

How much longer Roo plays for will most likely depend on how his knees hold up. Apparently they improved significantly in the 2nd half of this season, after having some new and seemingly successful treatments on them from Europe and as a result Nick reportedly said that he hopes to play on for 3 more years. I take it from that that his body feels OK otherwise and that he thinks he'll have the drive to keep on playing that long, so I've ben very surprised if he hangs them up in 12 months time.

This is why I think it would be ideal for us to draft a Tim O'Brien, Mason Shaw or Spencer White this year, so that by the time Nick does hang up his boots, they will hopefully be ready to step up and play a meaningful role in our senior team, alongside hopefully Stanley, Lee and whoever else is in the forward line.

didn't he miss the last 3 games with a knee?

that also implies we will select 1 rookie in the upcoming rookie draft

I was talking about the knee issues that have plagued him in previous years, which has been a bone on bone problem, I think. As September said above, the injury he received against Melbourne was a completely unrelated and different injury to the one that has given him grief for so long, as far as I'm aware.

Off topic, but body willing, Roo will hang around for 3 more. Just enough to get that elusive flag. will play out his final (premiership) year at FF and kick 60+ for the season.

I also suspect that if he is inclined to do so and does not move the USA for good, he will coach us one day.

Lock it in.

Roo probably won't coach us in a full-time/gameday role. He said himself that he hates being in the coaches box. Time might change things though.

i think he's on record saying he will move to the states and look to have some involvement with the afl over there

Father son playing league :D

Another father son probably gone then :(. Knowing our luck in 25 years time there will be a star rookie wide-receiver taking the NFL by storm with the surname Riewoldt.

Hmm... If Adelaide lose pick 20 and GWS/Sydney/whoever take Tippet in the first round, we're looking more likely to get one of the players we're targeting. Fingers crossed

I cant believe there is some genetic makeup that makes sucessful AFL players have sucessful kids.
IMO its more to do with upbringing.
Its a matter of whether the player gets his kids involved in footy.
Could come from the wierdest places.

Peckett, artical from 2009, so the 7 year old is 10 now.

FRANKIE and Teresa raise their family on a large block in Chelsea. Their daughter Tiarn is 17 while the next five are boys (Sam, 13, Sonny, 7, Jet, 6, Elwood, 3, and Ace, 17 months). The seventh is due later this month. With such a preponderance of boys, the backyard is a riot of wrestling, karate, dirt bikes and ball games. On most nights in winter, Peckett arrives home to find the three middle boys having a kick in the backyard while dressed in head-to-toe St Kilda gear. On Saturdays, the boys go to Karingal games with him. "They love it," Peckett said.

Sam Loewe has played more than 50 games for the Zebs ( East Sandringham Junior Football Club u/13s ) and has played in the South Metro interleague.
__________________________________________________________________________________________
"Sam Loewe, who didn’t have as much of it as he would in a club game, but played three varying roles – forward pressure, on-ball and defender – another who holds his head up high as a player doing his job in a championship-winning team."

sanderson is on record saying he expects to lose picks in the next 2 drafts.

i think its now a certainty that adelaide will lose its first two picks in this years draft and next.

melbourne will escape sanctions this year though :( will be hit next year/maybe not at all IMO

I still think the Melbourne one is a can of worms.
If I was the AFL I'd issue a statement along the lines of:
" At this point we think it is entirely possible that Melbourne did in fact tank for draft picks, however it will be difficult and costly to prove. Given the current state of Melbourne football club, we consider that most observers would consider it ill advised to persue such a course, particularly since priority picks will no longer be awarded . While the AFL will be more diligent in detecting and punishing such action in the future, we consider it less likely to occur in the current environment. In this case we will take no further action "

i dont think they can get away with that.

andy d is on record stating that the integrity of the game is the MOST important thing and anyone who steps outside of that will be run out of the game.

i just dont think they can hit them this year given how much they traded in this years trade week, they will delay the decision till after the draft. thing that worries me is the legal implications for admitting melbourne tanked.

The AFL would be ill-advised to do that. The backlash they would recieve for that would be significant. All non-Melbourne supporters would be in uproar and the journos would go to town on them. The only thing worse then tanking is knowing that clubs have tanked and doing shit all about it. Very bad move by the AFL. Shows their willingness to turn a blind-eye. I would be especially pissed if I was an Adelaide supporter.

Anyway, that was a little off-topic :)

I wouldn't go assuming that Tippett will be nominating for the national draft.

He, along with Adelaide, have just been charged, by the way, according to the hourly news on the radio.

They also said that nothing will be happening with regards to Melbourne until after this year's draft, as I suspected. No way they wanted them to stay uncompetitive for any longer than they had to and Viney and someone like Wines will help them to get competitive again sooner. I expect they'll get heavily whacked for next year's draft, though.
