Gillard supported Thomson for two years based on his "presumption of innocence" then dropped him one week before the FWA report was made public (but kept his vote).

Didn't Thompson vote with the Libs too?

I didn't see Abbott running out of the chamber on that day.

Two crooked union officials, one slush fund, money being buried in the back yard, one Lawyer sacked from her job, missing files, a letter to WA stating it was not a union fund, no arrests....ha ha I hope to buggery the police get involved. Then we might get some answers. No evasions then, no screeching and fingerpointing across the chamber, they will insist on a yes or no, no dramatics. Wonder what you lot will come up with then?

Your side does something dodgy "Its neccesary for the good of the country"

Their side does similar thing "This is simply outrageous and destroys the fabric of our system"

I know its hard but please try to suppress you first instinct to cry "misogynist!", "Abbott!", "Bishop!" or "Brandis!" for a second. There are no "sides" here. This isn't about the Opposition. This is about the Prime Minister of Australia exposed up to her eyeballs in unethical, quite possibly criminal activity.

Basically Xsess, no one really cares.

It's sad but not surprising that you (and your mates) admit to having such low ethical standards from the office of the prime minister. Isn't it also interesting to note that Gillard's prefered choice of Speaker managed to race through $13,000.00 a week in 'entitlements' before he finally slipped up. This 'hung' Parliament isn't so much a School for Scandal under Julia Gillard its more like a taxpayer driven ATM.

What are you suggesting is the significance of not consulting the firm's expert re association?

Doesn't go into it in the published transcript, but one concern might be that if Gillard had consulted another partner or the firms incorporations expert then the application would not have been made in the form it was unless it had been properly authorised by the firms major client, AWU?

Putting it another way: that Gillard as a partner, would have been expected to know that the app in the way she had advised Wilson/Blewitt was not properly authorised by said major client?

Also the issue of the stated purpose of the association not clearly reflecting its true purpose, which may not have happened had she consulted expert? Just speculating.

Obviously you don't know me, and my post you quoted could work either way round

Lets face it theres a reason lawyers go on to be politicians

Xsess, you really add very little to this discussion other than expressing your unsupported opinion in the most prosaic manner, and attempting to belittle anyone who disagrees with you. Others who share your view will try to debate a topic, argue points and engage with others without insults and hyperbole.
It's a shame that you behave like a little poodle, snapping at peoples ankles.

That smacks of taking your bat and ball and going home. I NEVER resort to personal insults. What is unbelieveable is that the AWU scandal has been described by some as one of the greatest union rackets ever, yet remains uninvestigated. The key players were Wilson, Blewett and Gillard. If it was your money that was fleeced wouldn't you want some answers? The lack of a smoking gun does not absolve anyone, and the evidence is mounting. Disseminate all my posts down and that is my point. This is ugly ugly business..

I don't speak for anyone else mate. There is a lot that Labor has done since 2007 that I don't agree with, as I've outlined numerous times.

To be honest, I don't have high standards for our politicians. They're politicians. Gillard was a high-profile lawyer involved in unions - I don't expect her to be squeaky clean. Nor do I expect an ultra-right-wing, visionless capitalist like Abbott to be squeaky clean.

This "saga" is a non-issue for voters and it was a political and logical mistake to go as hard as they did.

The key players were Blewitt and Wilson. Gillard dumped Wilson when she learned about the rumours going around involving him. Blewitt and Wilson were then drummed out of the AWU and the wider union movement - 17 years ago. There is no great fight for truth and justice here, it's all been dealt with by the union at the time. It's only guilt by association to try and force Gillard to resign as PM and trigger an early election. That tactic has failed. The story is dead.

For some reason I don't find Xcess as annoying as some with a different opinion to myself.

Maybe he does make comments about others generally, but is not as dismissive as some

First poll, as predicted ppl just don't give a shit. Pretty much what I expected. More ppl just don't give a shit than those who think she should resign IF the smear is true, which it patently isn't

http://www.roymorgan.com/news/polls/2012/4843/

“Today’s special telephone Morgan Poll shows the L-NP (51%) with a slender two-party preferred advantage over the ALP (49%) as allegations continue to be raised surrounding Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s involvement with an illegal AWU ‘slush-fund’ in the 1990s.

“A special telephone Morgan Poll conducted this week concerning the AWU ‘slush-fund’ scandal shows more Australians believe Prime Minister Julia Gillard should resign (40%) if the allegations against her are true compared to 25% that say she should ‘not resign’ while 35% either can’t say or have not heard of the scandal. Despite this, more Australians approve (34%) of the Prime Minister’s explanation of her involvement in the AWU ‘slush-fund’ than disapprove (26%), although most Australians (40%) either can’t say or are not aware of the scandal.

“However, the special telephone Morgan Poll conducted this week also asked approvals and includes better news for the Government with Gillard (49%, up 4% since September 2012) increasing her lead over Opposition Leader Tony Abbott (36%, down 1%) as ‘Better Prime Minister’, although perhaps worryingly for the Government Gillard (31%, down 4%) has dropped further behind former Opposition Leader Malcolm

Oh. Dear. Oh, oh dear! JuBish's career is OVER! Abbott's to I imagine

PENNELOPE LENNON: I hate Ralph Blewitt and if the people out there know what he's done they wouldn't be backing him.

MARK RILEY: You've spoken to the police about these matters?

LENNON: I have.

RILEY: We can't broadcast the allegations, but Mrs Lennon cautions politicians against trusting her brother.

LENNON: I don’t hold political favours or favourites to either side. This man is out to destroy lives. I know he's already bloody destroyed mine.

RILEY: Pennelope says she's got nothing to gain by going public, but felt compelled to after seeing her brother on television.

LENNON: He's an imbecile, he's an idiot, and he's a scumbag!

RILEY: This is your brother you're talking about?

LENNON: I hate him.

RILEY: Hate is a really strong word.

LENNON: I'm 60-years-old and I'm still suffering because of what he did to me. I was a young girl.

Pennelope is the young girl in this photo, Ralph Blewitt is on the right in the uniform. Photo: 7News

"I was made to be in that photo. I think you can see from the look on my face I didn't want to be near him."

RILEY: You’re not doing this for money, you’re not doing it for exposure, so why are you doing it?

LENNON: Because he couldn’t be punished for what he did to me when I was younger.]

He needs to be punished for what he’s doing now, for what he did to the AWU, for what he did with all those worker’s money that they paid him, the companies that he defrauded.

That would give me satisfaction in my life, if he were now to be charged with fraud, and some sort of imprisonment, and that’s all I want out of this.

RILEY: Ralph Blewitt has flown back to Malaysia. The man who financed his trip to Canberra, researcher Harry Nowicki, said today that Ms Lennon was just ‘attacking his mate’s character’.

He pointed out that Mrs Lennon hasn’t spoken to her brother since their father died 19 years ago.

Pennelope Lennon says there's a good reason for that, and now hopes other family members will come forward with their stories.

LENNON: He's openly admitted to fraud. Now come on Ralph, openly admit to what you did to your sister all those years ago.

I doubt very much anyone could claim that what that poor women said was not from the heart.

Considering the LOTO has seen fit in the past to attacking a dying man then I think you underestimate the oppositions capacity to put their foot in their collective mouths.

Some bright spark said "there are no facts, there are just interpretations".

FEDERAL VOTING INTENTION SUMMARY - HOUSE OF REPS (%)
November 10/11 & 17/18, 2012 (Face)
ALP 36.5
L-NP 38.5
Greens 11.5
Others 13.5
November 27-29, 2012 (Phone)
ALP 36.5
L-NP 44.5
Greens 8.5
Others 10.5

The Greens vote (and Indies) appears to have been smashed and Liberals picked up the votes.

Basically Xsess, no one really cares.

The underlying issue here is union corruption and Labor corruption in NSW and by extension Labor movement culture.

If and when Thompson is charged in addition to his Fed Court appearance next year the AWU scandal 17 years ago will be placed in that context.

Polls are like climate science: you're doing it wrong!

A. You're comparing apples and oranges (Morgan face-to-face with their telephone polls)

B. You're trying to glean an interpretation from statistical noise, where you need to be following the trend.

C. Only the most fervent of believers would have thought this issue would cause a statistically significant shift in primary voting intentions, the approval numbers were always what were going to be interesting, not that the primaries have gone up or down within the margins of error.
